Hi,
Well I bet Linzechris is totally confused now. Confused
This topic has gone from recommendations as to what they're criteria were, to people recommending their favourite resorts, whether suitable to the original posters ideals or not. Wink
Now we are on to all sorts of subjects as to who holidays where, who spends, who doesn't, what the apartment owners do or reap.
Isn't it amazing how a topic develops just as a normal conversation would. Smile

I have friends renting to tour operators who pay more than than thr 3-4 Euros per night quoted, but obviously still low but you have to realise that the commitment contracts run from May- October whether or not the beds are used, so for quite a number of nights they are getting paid but not having any outlay (electricity, laundry etc.).  Most places also have a pool and a bar and anticipate making a profit by their guests using their facilities, and it is up to them to make them welcoming so they do so rather than going elsewhere.

Many T.O.'s are now only paying if the beds are used, and have also cut the contract period to 2-3 months. One I know of only using apartments for July and August. One telling customers the apartments are fully booked/overbooked, so they must book elsewhere. Pools still need cleaning/chemicals and bars require electricity and staff. Anyway, I'm going to leave it there. I apologise for going off subject, and if I've upset anybody, I'm sorry. I hope the original poster finds a suitable place and has a lovely holiday on our beloved island.   Moyra

Hi Moyra,
No worries. As I said it's amazing the way topics meander, just as normal conversation does. I too hope Linzechris find somewhere that suits them. Sure that once they do, they will fall in love with this magical isle, as all we have done. x

Good afternoon to all not a regular poster but have been going to Corfu now for 36 years,so have seen the changes all over. Have stayed reguarly in Benitses and also in Roda where my daughter has a bar with her husband and his family. Personally I would recommend a place close to Corfu town then you have the best of everything, trips out to various places by bus, also plenty of eating places, Greek bars, cafes, shops etc.

She has Pirates Bar in Roda, business is not very good at the moment, even though she stays open all the year round the locals and ex-pats havent got money to spend, but at least they have the sunshine for a lot of the year.

Ha Ha Pirates bar is great, having a cocktail looking over to Albania nothing better even more so when its happy hour...

I love the north of the island and have stayed in most places there,  the good thing about Corfu is that it doesnt realy matter where you stay cause if you can, you only need to hire a car for your stay and then the island is yours to find what you want, have a drink in the mountains or find a random bar on the beach for a cool beer with some crispy sardines or even have a laugh and sing all night on the kareoke in a small bar.  There is a difference between stag week tourism and tourism to just because you may like a pub quiz or a sing along doesnt mean you cant appreciate the views from the top of Paleo or the coves on the East coast.

To the original post Just go to Corfu and you cant be dissapointed.  Ive been to some far away places and Ive always said that my perfect holiday with a no limits budjet is Corfu, self catering accomodation and a hire car.

Wherever you go enjoy

Nath
