Hi, I'm new on here and have been looking to go to Corfu for a holiday with my husband.
We are in our early fifties, like to relax, maybe sightsee a little and eat and drink in typically Greek tavernas as well as relax on the beach. We do NOT like very touristy places with lots of drunk people that have no respect for the local culture. Also, my husband is awaiting a knee replacement at the moment so struggles with walking too much or very hilly areas if there are no lifts etc. Does anyone have any advice for which areas would be best to stay in please? We looked at Kalami but were a little worried about my husbands mobility there, but not having been there were not sure. All replies gratefully recieved.

Hi,
When are you intending to go as that will give an idea of how busy or not a resort is. I would suggest Arillas, Acharavi, Roda, Kassiopi as they are all fairly flat and not too busy. Are you looking for a sandy beach or pebble? Mostly pebble on the NE coast and sandy on the NW coast.
You don't really get many places on Corfu with with a lot of drunken people so you have a fair bit of choice, it really depends on what you want. |

Hi Linzechris, 1st
off welcome to this site, you should get plenty advice on which resorts
would suit your needs. My own recommendation
would be San Stefanos on the North West coast. Beautiful laid back resort with
a cracking beach, beautiful sunsets (see my avatar) and the friendliest locals
I’ve ever came across. It’s has a nice mix not too busy but not too quiet, the
resort is split in two, you have the old part nearer the harbour which is quiet
and typically Greek and the newer part which is more busy but not rowdy, plenty
restaurants to choose from, most serving home cooked Greek food. It’s a shame you
husband is a currently waiting on knee surgery as there are some beautiful
walks around the area but most tend to be hilly but you are rewarded with magnificent views.
However, there is plenty accommodation next to the beach which is on the level
and should be ok for your husbands needs. Check this link
below for info on the site, the resort gets a lot of
repeat visitors, including me. If you have any further questions please let me know Steven |

I personnally would sugest Kassiopi, its flat has plenty of tavernas for eating and drinking. The beaches are pebble, accomadation are the ussual Greek standard and from the square about 5 minutes walk from everything so not too long a walk and as for the people, atmostphere and views, well there to die for, but where every you deside Im sure you will have a ball

I recommend Roda/Acharavi. My husband and I are in our fifties and love Roda and have been going for 7 years. It is quiet, people of all ages with generations of the same family returning each year. It is very flat with sandy beach. There is lots of accomodation to suit all types and budgets. Plenty of tavernas and bars, some are very British but there is also a good selection of purely Greek. Acharavi is a 20-40 minute walk along the coast road with a wide selection of beachfront tavernas to stop at and enjoy the view.

The village of Kalami itself is not too hilly but if you want to venture outside (Agni or Kaoloura) your husband will struggle as Kalami is a cove with hills all around. There are boat taxis during the day and evenings from the jetty and they would enable you to get to Agni, Kassiopi and Corfu Town without any problems as long as he is able to step down onto the boat.

Wow! What a quick response. Thank you. We are thinking of going in May.
My husband can walk but struggles a bit. I will look at all the suggestions so far in more detail.

Linzechris
If you decide on Agios Stefanos or Arillas ask the exact situation of the accommodation and clarify on this forum whether it is on a hill or not as some apartments are on quite steep hills in both resorts. In Agios Georgios north the bulk of the accommodation units are on the flat. My wife and I now have arthritis and back problems and cannot walk very much so we ensure we have a good time by just spending a bit more money on our holiday to hire a small car for running around locally. It enables us to visit lovely places like Afionas, Paleokastritsa and some nearby quiet villages as often as we want. We can still do some of our favourite walks but drive some of the route before leaving the car. May is a lovely time to visit Corfu because it is so fresh and the wild flowers are still blooming before they die back for the hot summer. Dennis |

Can I suggest Paleokastritsa. The Apollon hotel is right on the road from the covebeach. Trygoogling it and see what you think. They have very nice rooms for couples and Karen (Spiros wife) is British and will be able to give you all the advice you need. There is also a bus that picks up and drops off in the layby a little further down right on the beach also that takes you into town, I think its 4.20 €. Yamas.

I just love that Corfu feeling!

Sidari every time, I tried Roda, San Steph, Kassiopi and several others but now settled once or sometimes twice a year in my beloved Sidari staying with the same family every time.

I would not recommend any of the above after looking at your list of likes and dislikes- I would look south- maybe Petriti- easy access to other places, delightful unspoilt fishing village- flat, excellent tavernas- no karaoke or similar bars- a real Greek paradise

I like Petreti but know nothing of the available accomodation, however Acharavi has an abundance of small bungalow type villas of varying grades, some virtually on the beach, these are mostly let through small indipendant local tour companys. The whole area is on the flat.May would be nice and quiet everywhere with almost all the businesses up and running with a welcoming smile.

My recommendation would be Paleokastritsa, very laid back, easy going though there are some gentle slopes here and there. A car would be good to get out and about. A couple of nice, shingly beaches, plenty of tavernas and restaurants and very friendly people.
I like Sidari but only for a day visit as it seems to be geared mainly for the youngsters, I like being a boring old ....! Still 4 months to go to Paleo

Hi Razaker,
How can you say that Sidari is not touristy. Just need to look at the majority of the shops.

Hi Sue,
I agree with you, but when Linzechris goes in May it shouldn't be too busy.
