Hi,
Back to awesome Kassiopi in August, the 4th time, of many more visits to come no doubt. We usually rent a car for a few days here and there for adventures, we don't bother with the beaches around the area much as they seem all pebble and not very comfortable. Can people suggest a sandy beach within a short/EASY drive, preferably relatively quiet but with at least one taverna for a loo and cold drinks, lunch. Kids are 10 and 12 and still happy to play on a beach. I thought all the sandy beaches are over the other side so put off by crossing the mountains, but I am probably wrong? I know there is sand at Sidari but don't want to go anywhere near it if I can help it. ![]() Thanks.

Hi Sillygoose. Kalamaki (Sandy Beach) is just a 5 minuyte drive from Kassiopi. There are a couple of bars and a good restaurant there. Long and sandy, the sea is shallow and crystal clear, you can walk way out without the water going above your waist. Also you can go by boat by booking the Beach BBQ trip. Enjoy.

Thank you, exactly what I wanted to know. ![]() I think we might make a few ventures over the other side as we should really, I like the mountain drives but the family moan it makes them sick, especially the hairpin roads up to Pantokrator - Oh for something small and sporty to whizz up there!

What about Arillas. You do not have to go via the mountain roads but follow the Coast.

Definitely Kalamaki. Very close and a fabulous beach, with shallow waters and a great fun jetty to jump into the sea from. Your kids will love it.

Hire an automatic, it makes the drive so much easier on those narrow roads. We had a Golf from Travel Corner which was good on fuel (20 euro got us all over the Northern end down to Paleo and back) well worth the extra few euro to hire to avoid all those gear changes with enough 'grunt' to overtake when you need to. As for another beach, try Acharavi. The beach is several miles long and the water waist deep for quite a way out. We park at Acharavi Beach Hotel so we can use the showers to wash the sand off when we get back before getting into the car and their beach bar is very good

You also have St Spyridon sandy beach on the North East coast. On the NW you have Arillas, Agios Georgios (Pagi), Agios Stephanos which are all sandy beaches.

I love the pot luck of car hire, first time we went we booked an automatic. Got given a great big Nissan Primera, nice car actually but so long it literally couldn't make it round the endless hairpins up the mountain and required frequent 3 point turns... got monotonous. We had neighbours to our villa that had booked a medium size hatchback. They gave them a BMW 1 series! for 4 adults and all their luggage. They arrived with 2 of them spread eagled over the cases in the back, must have been hell on the long drive from the airport to Kassiopi

Thanks, that was spot on, got there first thing and dead quiet, absolutely lovely, loved chasing fish in the shallow waters and kids indeed amused for ages flipping off the jetty. Got too hot early afternoon so moved down the road to Hydropolis (which is still looking a bit sad) and as it was end of season and very quiet we managed to haggle a cheaper entry. Hit the sunbeds and shade whilst the kids did all the slides 100 times. Stayed there until close then had early dinner at a favourite, Mythos Taverna on the road back to Kassi. Great day. Cheers.

All three do but if you have a car the first turning from Kassiopi will take you down to a large area to park the car enjoy !!
