Sidari - Tell Me About It

We've been going to Sidari for 25 years. It has expanded quite a bit in that time. Don't be put off by the "Blackpool with sun" brigade. Yes there is a "strip" in the centre which can be loud, but you don't actually have to set foot in it - we rarely do, apart from maybe a bit of shopping in the day - but it's there if you want it. It's mainly tribute acts/bingo/quiz nights. The whole "strip" only covers about40/50 yards. I think there are two clubs.There are all kinds of restaurants available, Greek/British/Indian/Chinese/Italian/Mexican. In all these years,I can honestly say we've never had a bad meal - some better than others maybe - but everyone has their own favourites.  Head out the way from either end of the strip, and you'll find lots of lovely little restaurants/tavernas/bars. The main beach runs parallel to the "strip". There is another long narrow beach, which is quieter, and beautiful little coves at the Canal D'Amour. There is loads to see on the island and I would recommend trying the small local travel agents for trips, rather than the reps. They do the same tours for about half the price. Car hire is also an option, if you don't mind driving over there. We use Value Plus, and collect/drop off our car at the airport. You can get a no obligation quote from info(at)corfucarrentals.com, but there are several others. Corfu Town is great. Paleokastritsa is stunningly beautiful. The Achilleon Palace is well worth a visit, and Kassiopi has a lovely picturesque harbour. Aqualand or Hydropolis are water parks and great fun if you're into that. These are just a few, there are little gems to be found round every corner! The weather in May is usually beautiful. Lovely and warm/hot during the day, but cooler in the evening (cardi required), which is better for sleeping. And the fireflies come out in May and are absolutely magical!! Mozzies can be a problem, but if you spray your room/use plug ins, and use repellant, you should be OK. The only thing I can't help you with is the nudist beach. Can only add that when we wandered down the far south side of the beach in St Georges South...we were one of the few 'clothed' couples on the beach...althought that's possibly a bit of a trek from Sidari   xx

There's a naturist area at the far end of Arillas beach, which is much closer to Sidari than Myrtiotissa.

From what I remember, the whole strip is much bigger than 50 yards? I do dislike Sidari but wouldn't put anyone off going there, although Canal D'Amour is very nice.

For the person mentioning nudist beaches, I also think there is one at the end of San Stefanos NW too.

The main street in Sidari is certainly longer than 40/50 yards, but the "strip" is only part of the main street, not the whole street! You don't hit the really noisy part until after The Three Brothers/ Vlasseros Travel/church area, coming from the (former McD's) crossroads. You can avoid it completely by walking along the beach, or along the back road by the car park. On the odd occasion when we have walked along there in the evening, if asked to go in to any of the bars, our standard reply is "do we LOOK mad?"

Sue, as Susie says, the roads aren't too bad-it really depends where you plan on going.
Stick to the main roads and they're fine. 
I wouldn't drive from Sidari to Corfu Town in the dark though. Too many fairly sharp bends, not all with crash barriers.
My DH has been driving on Corfu for 30 years, and he knows most of the roads well, but still finds it a little stressful, mainly because he's driving on the other side of the road, and there's the odd crazy person overtaking you on narrow roads etc.
No different from the UK then!
