We have decided its time for a change so are thinking of a holiday in Rhodes toward the end of September (don't worry, the annual visit to Corfu is taking place in May!!). We are thinking of staying in Pefkos and wondered if anyone had any thoughts (positive or negative). We also plan on hiring a car, are there any particular places we should visit?
Thanks in advance, Gill

Hi Gill,
I think it was you who gave me lots of advice on A.G. 10 years ago when I joined the forum ! plus Nigel, they were the good days, where is everyone now? I have been going to Corfu now ever since, usually twice a year, and often 3 or 4 weeks at a time, that's how much I like Corfu....and now Paxos too. Will be having my second stay there in May. ANYWAY.....as to your question on Pefkos. We went to Pefkos two years running (then Crete) before discovering Corfu and this forum, the two go together in my mind! It had a nice feel to the place and the coves to the far right, just keep walking ,are nice sunbathing areas with secluded tavernas but the main beach is just long and uninteresting and very busy, but the sea is lovely I seem to remember. We hired a car and went to the very south tip where the the Meditteranean meets the Aegean, Prassonissi, stopping at Katavia a village with a cafenion for refreshments and a nice walk round. Kiotari is also a nearby small resort to visit plus of course Lindos and Rhodes Town are worth a visit. All in all not a bad base to be, but you will not like it there as much as Corfu I don't think. It's definitely good to see other places though. Hope this was helpful ![]() |

Thanks for the tips Carol. We do love Agios Gordios and Corfu but thought it was time to see somewhere else (even if it only convinces us that AG is the only place for us!!)

I stayed in Pefkos a few years ago which was my first ever visit to Rhodes. On the way from the airport to the resort we passed black volcanic mountains and I began to wonder what I had let myself in for. It was the exact opposite of Corfu, hardly a tree to be seen, barren would be my description.
Pefkos itself proved to be a delight. Fantastic open beaches which were not crowded. Night life was there to suit all tastes. Pefkos-By-Night is well worth a visit. The road alongside the bar leads down to a great beach. If you want some photo's Gill then you know how to contact me. Yammas, Colin.

I am struggling to think where black volcanic mountains are on Rhodes Colin!!!
Rhodes is green and beautiful with wonderful inland villages. I have friends who love Pefkos but I have never stayed there. Several times we have toured round it exploring in the car but it is not for us, we prefer Haraki - not far up the road. However, places to visit. As you will have a car there are several must go to places. Old Rhodes Town is a must, you can park outside the old walls on the opposite side of old town to the new part. A visit to Epta Pigis (Seven Springs) sign posted off the main road to Rhodes town is a delight on a hot day. Not only is the taverna there wonderful in the high canopy of trees but the peacocks and geese roaming round the waters are really entertaining. You can also follow the water round to a tunnel you can walk through, in the water, to the pool and aquaduct. If you get to the other side of the island Ancient Kamiros (one of the ancient main towns of Rhodes) is great, the whole town is laid out down a hill to the sea. Explore all the coves and beaches and drive right to the end of the island to see the Med meet the Aegean. Lindos is the big tourist pull. The town is small and exhausting, narrow streets with no cars but you have to see it once!! Our favourite beach there is St Pauls which you can drive down to with a big car park right behind the beach. Have a look at Haraki while you are there, enjoy lunch or dinner in one of the tavernas and during the day you can climb up to the imposing castle. We do to Rhodes every 2 or three years and never fail to find something new to see. And don't forget to go inland for that cup of coffee and wonderful views. Susie |

Hi we stayed at Pefkos village resort and had an amazing time, stayed previously in Ixia in the North. Pefkos end is definitely better just left from the hotel is a little taverna called Kavos Mare, there is a little clip on Youtube, the owner there climbed up a tree at the taverna to show us a Gizinet, those really noisy little creatures. The place was lovely food, view and owners been going to Corfu since 1991. Love the island also been to other Greek islands just wish I could put that little Taverna on Corfu.
Also went to Parassonisi where the 2 seas meet you can walk through the middle. Lindos and Rhodes town well worth a visit. There is also an ice bar in Lindos. You will have a fab time Mandraki harbour is a beautiful site. Sedgi |
