Ray and Sue arriving 11th June for 2 weeks. Another of our favourite things is snorkelling. If you can swim you can snorkel. I (Ray) can not swim well, but I can snorkel for hours. Many of the little shops around the harbour sell snorkel masks and tubes. Wet your face and mask before putting it on. If it sreams up, spit in it and wipe it around the glass. The nearest place we go to is just up from the West/North side of the harbour. As you climb the steep road, you will find little paths down to the rocks. These are big slabs where you can also lie on to soak up the sun. From these you can gently enter the water. Be careful of spikey urchins. Once in keep close to the sides and don't swim across the harbour entrance for fear of being run down by boats. My top tip is take a sandwich bag with you full of old bread pieces or sweetcorn.  Then when you see the many fish you will see, open the bag to let some food out. You can then watch the fish all coming towards you quickly grabbing the food. Don't forget to sun cream your back - because time passes by quickly and before you know it you will have been in the water for an hour. You can dive down with a snorkel too. Take a deep breath, lift your feet back and down you go. When you get to the surface, blow hard to clear the snorkel tube of water (some have fancy valves to do this at the bottom).  Snorkelling to me feels like I am flying above the sea bed. Fantastic. Try it, you will be hooked.

You can take snorkelling further booking a Scuba diving course. There is (I assume it is still there) a diving shop up the main street from the harbour.

The diving shop is now located 3 doors down from the kafenion, opposite the school.
