  Ionian Yacht Charter

 Related Site Topics

There are several ways to charter a yacht in Greece and explore the Greek coasts and islands. First of all, there is bareboat chartering, which means that you skipper the yacht yourself with no hired skipper or crew. At least two competent sailors are required before a company can rent you a bareboat. It is of course the most elegant way to explore the Greek waters, in complete privacy with only your own party on board.

If you are in doubt of your capabilities or just a little rusty, a flotilla may be a better choice. This still gives you the privacy of your own boat, but you sail along with other boats. You are still the captain of your own boat but can turn to an 'admiral' for advice if you want to. You do have to go where the other boats go, so you may not get so much choice as to where you sail.

For the less experienced or novice sailor you can have the freedom of your own boat -  though with a stranger on board - with a crewed charter. These charters vary from just one skipper/instructor onboard to additional cooks, hostesses etc. You can also charter by berth on the larger yachts or you can take a cabin charter, effectively like a cruise in which you just rent your own cabin.  If your party is chartering the whole boat with a crew, it is possible to discuss your route with the skipper and chose which islands you and your party wish to visit. When taking a cabin charter or chartering a berth on a large boat, the course may be planned or decided upon by the crew, or discussed amongst the group.
There are many Charter Companies operating in the Ionian area. Check our links page for details.
