* How long is Airport transfer to Sidari? Brochure says about an hour and a half but it said something similar when I went away last year and it was literally 5 minutes in a taxi.
* How bad is it for mosquitos (sorry I can't spell!). Is it any different to places like Zante?
* We are staying in the Olga appartments, it looks nice and has some good reviews although i did read one really bad one. Sounds like an ideal location, anyone stayed there, got any comments?
* We are looking to take around £300 each, will this be enough? Most of our spending will be on food and drink, I doubt we will be out late although we may have a night or two in town.
* Are the beaches as nice as they look?
Thanks :o)

Yes the airport transfer takes an hour and a half to 2 hours depending who gets dropped off first.
Yes the mossies are rife, make sure you take plenty of mossie stuff, i use boots own brand.
Dont know personally about the Olga apartments but the place we stayed last year had a couple of not so good comments and we had a fantastic time, make it work is what i say!
We took a bit more last year and we had loads for trips etc suppose it depends on how long you are going for...
The beaches are lovely, had no problems at all....
When are you going?

Hi JonL, hubby and I are staying at Olgas in July, not stayed there before but have stayed at others in that area, they are in great location in Canal d'mour area, quieter but still lots of restaurants and bars. 10-15 min walk to main strip. When are you going and where from. There are a couple of threads about mossies and the different remedies that everyone uses. We always get a taxi to resort but use the coach to go back. We will be pre booking with alfataxis, when we land at Corfu while hubby waits for cases I go and let the rep know we are taking taxi so they are not waiting for us. We have had horrendous transfers using coach as they take so long. But it may depend on time of year you are going.

Thanks guys.
Sorry forgot to mention those details, we are going for a week. Flying from Gatwick on the 6th July.
I think the only trip we are looking to go on is the big waterpark (Auqaland I think) but the rest of the time we are just looking to chill out by the pool or on the beach.
We have a plug in and will look to get some spray. Have heard its cheaper to get out there in one of the many supermarkets but not sure we will risk that. Also heard about suntan lotion with some bug stuff mixed in.
Thanks again guys, we are really excited as this is our first holiday away together. Counting down the days!!

Hi JonL. I'd get suntan stuff & insect repellent separately. The mossies tend to dine at the same time as we do - after the sun's gone down. We use the Tesco stuff with 50% deet.
Allen.

Hi Jon, my hubby and I arrive on the 3rd July from Luton also staying at Olgas, will say hello if we see you out and about. We already have the plug in things for mozzies, bought them over the years we've been going. Mozzies usually get me but hubby seems to not get bitten. I wear cotton jammies in bed so hopefully they only get my feet. When out at night I wear long trousers. From reading other topics on this forum, I have chosen what I am going to take with me. Avon Skin So Soft Dry Oil (Green), Original Source - Lemon Shower Gel, Lemon Grass Deodorising Foot Spray (Body Shop) and a bite stick if the inevitable happens. You soon get into a routine and I don't let them spoil my holiday. If you like Marmite (I Don't)have it on toast for 2 weeks before you go and while there, its supposed to work.

We wanted to fly from Luton (live in Hitchin so its only 15 mins or so away!) but they didn't have that option when we booked up so we are going by National Express from the town centre.
I don't like Marmite but I will suggest it to my girlfriend. It does seem like you poor women are affected more than us men ha ha, those mozzies obviously have good taste.
I am worried now, I have lots of shorts and three quarter lengths for the evenings, will have to make sure I am fully repellent (my girlfriend might suggest I already am! :D ) before we go out.
I went to Zante last year and didn't get bothered by them, went Kavos a number of years ago and only got the odd bite when everyone else seemed to get eaten to bits. Hopefully they just don't like me. Hopefully its the same for the girlfriend, she has been to the green islands before and not had it too bad so fingers crossed.
We found fans in the room kept the mozzies out in Kavos, hopefully air con will do the same.
Thanks again all for your advice, it is much appreciated :o)

I get Boots REPEL, 50% deet, spray, in a grey can, I have also bought a roll on, same stuff.
When I leave my room in the mornings and at night before retiring I give the doors and windows very brief spray.
The roll on, I hope will be ideal for going out.
Last year for me was mossie bite free thanks to REPEL.

Thank you, I am sure we will.
We don't really ask for much. As long as the room is clean and comfortable, the pool is nice, the weather is hot and the beach is good then we have all we want.
It all sounds very relaxed and if this forum is anything to go by the people are nice.
Can't wait! Sitting by that pool with a cold drink is the sort of moment that you stop and think "this is what its all about".
Roll on 6th July :)

When our grandchildren come out to stay with us, they never use less than SPF 50 and still manage to go back home with a lovely golden skin colour.
If your girlfriend is pale, she needs to be very careful. The sun is deceptively hot, especially when you're swimming and being cooled down by the water.
Our son-in- law, who is a total sun -worshipper, never uses less than 15 and is bronze by the time he goes back home.

Hmm ok, maybe we will start with a 50 and work our way down to something like a 20.
Thank you, it is quite bad that I don't know this at my age!

Remember keep windows/doors closed in the evenings to keep the little blighters out as much as possible, It will be very warm so if there is air con then either pay the daily amount or alternatively there are places dotted around resort that hire fans for around a couple of euros. Don't forget your mozzie plug in's too.
Have a great time in Sidari.

We are definitely hiring the air con this year, couldn't sleep at all because of the heat in Zante last year. Ended up buying a fan and although it helped a little it did basically blow the hot air about. My mates got the air conditioning and there room was like heaven!
Our room will become Fort Knox in the evening, taking no chances.
We have our plug in so I will make sure she remembers to stick it in the case.
Thanks again all of you for all your help and advice :o)
Hope you all have a great time too.

You dont really need to take up space in your luggage with plugins, sprays etc! Corfu is really quite 'civilised' in that the stores all sell sprays, plugins, whatever. A really good effective brand is Autan, a sprayon, for the mozzies.. Dont forget the yoghourt remedy for sunburn, natural only ( I once slathered pineapple flavour over my daughter, it was all that was available)!
Maybe dont wwear perfume, and dont mix the sunscreen with bugspray, Im told it sends you loopy!

Hi JonL i have an allergic reaction to mosi bites so i take no chances with them i Use Mosi off with deet body spray Plug ins and also the 1st supermarket we come to on arrival we buy a tin of aerosol fly spray
As we normally have the doors open most of the day in the appartments there is always a chance of a couple of mosis hiding
So before we go out for the evening its all doors closed nets and curtains drawn then give every room a quick blast of fly spray to kill off any intruders lol
It seems to have worked so far and the smell of the spray has dissapeared when we get back ,mind you that might be due to the Mythos and Ouzo lol

Thats a good idea, didn't think about fly spray but it makes sense.
Yeah will have to forego the aftershave/perfume I think.
We already have the plug so will chuck that in the bag and will probably get a spray to make sure we are covered for when we arrive, I believe its about 4/5am.
We won't have too much in the bags anyway really so there should be plenty of room.
I am sure we will have a few pints of Mythos and the cheeky Ouzo before we get back to the room so will probably have the same lack of memory regarding the smell of fly spray
Never heard that yoghurt thing before, will have to look into that. I used Aloe Vera gel last year which was quite nice although I did stupidly get really badly burnt!

Loads of foremsters have mentioned getting the Lemon Source shower gel (i didnt get it however) and also using Avon skin-so-soft dry oil body spray (original) which i used last year and was ok... Alex didnt use the SSS cos he didnt like the smell but we covered ourselves in Boots own brand mossie repellent...i didnt wait till i got there, sprayed all uncovered skin before we flew out!! Took no chances lol We also had Boots plug in and paid for air-con and left it on 24/7 at hotel we stayed at...it was cool whilst we were there and super cool when we got back...Dont know if all places do that, as in leave it on 24/7 cos i`ve been told that its not possible at some places!! But if this place we are going too this year does this then thats what i`ll pay for....
Enjoy your holiday

Do you remember how much the air con was? I know it wont be the same price everywhere but could give me a general idea.
Cost 40 euros for the week last year but we did go to a "18-30" type resort and you get the feeling they make the most out of the young'uns who are there for the taking
If it is that price it will still be worth it though.

Should be around 35-40 euros per week if my memory serves me right!! it usually averages around 5 euros per day and you will need it as it does get pretty unbearable, I remember attempting to sleep without it and ended up with no sleep all night because I was too busy trying to find a cool spot on the tiled floor!!!!!!

Ha ha sounds like me last year.
That isn't too bad I suppose, will be worth it in the end.
Will look out for that Lemon Source shower gel before we go, sorry was that to help with the mozzies or sooth skin bashed skin?

JonL, I had an allergic reaction to a horse-fly bite some years ago and when visiting Corfu my doctor advised I take anti-histamine for 1-2 weeks prior to departure from the UK and for the duration of my holiday. This I did and although not bite free I was not troubled by them. They didn't itch, drive me mad or go sceptic and nasty (as they tend to with all the scratching!!) I am going to Sidari on 12th June and will start the regime again two weeks before leaving the UK. I always use plug-ins in the room although the hotel we are staying in has mozzie net/guards at the windows and so we sleep with the window open all night to take advantage of the sea air and its great. My husband and daughter also follow the same regime and they too have had the odd bite but nothing to cause problems. On a previous holiday we met a woman who had some awful bites and they were driving her crazy but her husband only had the odd one or two and it turned out her husband was taking the same tablets for hay-fever! Needless to say she shared his pills for the rest of the holiday and had no more problems and the bites she already had stopped sending her nuts and spoiling her holiday. She sent me an e-mail the following year to say she'd adapted the regime and had a brilliant holiday in Zante with only a couple of bites!!!
It works for us - give it a try.
Happy holidays!

The Lemon source shower gel is apparently to help shoo off the mossies....
I paid 60 euros last year, and 20 of that was a deposit for the key you use to turn it on....but believe me it was well worth it!! Last year Alex turned off the air-con when he got out of the shower cos it was a bit chilly, then went onto the veranda and sat in the sunshine, i got out of the shower and was immediately sweating...thought crumbs it must be a scorcher and said same to Alex....he said oh so very innocently" you might want to turn air-con back on, i was a bit chilly standing undernaeth it"....needless to say it never happened again because he never stood undernath it to dry off lol...i had to have another shower cos i sweated so much in 5 mins....bless him

Hi Jon
We have been going to Sidari for the last 5 years at least and always get a taxi from the airport and it only takes about 45 mins, but be warned the drivers drive fast but know the roads well, so at least you get to your apartment much quicker
