I have just heard that Olympic have dropped the Amfitriti Hotel in Lakka this year (gutted). We were booked there end of June. I haven't managed to get hold of Nancy yet, has anyone heard what is happening? Olympic had rebooked us in Bastas but no way am I staying there!!!

cheers,

Bill

Oh dear Bill sorry to hear that your plans have taken a nose dive. I never think its fair that peoples holidays can be changed after they have spent so much time deciding where will suit them and what hotel/accomendation is to their liking..but why so hard on Basta it really is'nt so bad!

Hi Helen, Thanks for youe sympathy. What annoys me is I booked last October and it takes Olympic until the end of March to decide they aren't doing it. I suppose having got used to the views from Amfitriti the lack of them from Bastas is the main put off. All is not yet lost as I have spoken to Nancy now and she is going to run independant, so hopefully i can book direct with her.

cheers,

Bill

I can only think that they have not enough bookings for the Amfitriti this year. Its also unfair on Nancy who did have bookings ... but now has none!
Will Olympic give you your money back?

Hi I'm a newbie and have posted a reply to this message but it obviously gone through on another page, they did the same to me, but i didn't want Bastas for the same reasons, apart from the fact that I made friends with Nancy and family. I loved the Amfitriti, I think i's probably her that's dropped Olympic, with all the trouble from last year!!!!

We have been staying at Lakka for the past three years and strongly recommend the following Studios/Apartments. They are the best I've stayed in Lakka for views, comfort, cleanliness and hospitality.

The views from each room and swimming pool are amazing.

Are you the Bill with a wife whose name beging with K and a son beginning with E?
If so I am the lady(???)with 2 sticks on her own from Aug last year. Also want to book, have texted Nancy but no answer, and email addy not recognised. Have you her contact details?
I don't know if there is a pm facility on this forum but if there is could you let me have details to contact her.
As a matter of interest Direct Line are advertising Amfitriti but will not book for a single traveller, even with supplements.

Hmmmmm I(at)ve also noticed Terezas isn't in this years Olympic brochure. I wonder if they are going to eventually do the same or is it because Terezas is a popular one that doesn't need to be put on the brochure now? Please tell me they haven't dropped it as we have booked to go there this year in September......

The travel companies are dropping a lot of the smaller islands totally.
It is now impossible to get to Andros, for instance, on a package tour.
They are finding it impossible to fill all the properties, so if they do go to these smaller places there is a limited choice of accommodation.
I am afraid that the majority of tourists want to go to lively places and don't want a further journey on a ferry etc, after the flight. We that like peace and quiet are actually being penalised.
It is all about making money so the majority rather than the minority are being catered for.

Hi all
Why not go independent. You do not have to go with the tour ops. Give our Greek friends the business. I have not been with a company for many years and have always done well. We now have our own little place on Corfu and know that they work really hard for business.
It is easier than you think, just get a flight and book your hotel.! Have fun.

Hi Pennypooch,

Apologies for not replying to you earlier......been busy over Easter. You are right! I am indeed Bill with the wife and son. I hope you are well? If you haven't got hold of Nancy let me know I have mobile and a personal email for her. Also you can find Nancy on facebook if you have an account. I will try to private message you some contact details for me.
Sadly it looks like we aren't going this year as I can't make the figures add up (exchange rates etc). Penalties of flying from provincial airports means I am looking at around £850 for flights alone at the moment.
I have a copy of the hydrofoil schedule that emmafletch kindly let me have if you need it.

cheers,

Bill

We have booked Bastas Apartments first 2 weeks in June with Olympus. We chose the island for it's simplicity and laidbackness. We have read several contradictory reports about Bastas. We are under no illusions as to what to expect as we have stayed in Greek apartment several times. All we ask is the apartment is clean, and the shower works.
Can anyone please confirm that we can expect that?  Thanks, Liz & Steve

Hi Liz & Steve

I've never stayed at the Bastas, but plenty of people who come on here have stayed there and most of them have plenty of positive things to say about it. Until someone else comes along, you might be interested to have a look at this old thread which also has a link to a Youtube video taken at Bastas a couple of years ago.

I have stayed several times and not had a problem. Basic Greek rooms, at least the door shuts between the bedroom and where the fridge is so you don't get that buzzing all night!
If you do have a problem just have a word with the owner and the rep.

Liz and Steve we stayed at Basta last September. The rooms were basic the owners very friendly and the pool in a lovely peaceful setting. For what you pay its fine. Basic yes, but a clean bed, a saucepan to boil some water in, and if you are lucky a room with a view.

Would we go back? You bet....see you there the first two weeks of June!!!

Have stayed at Bastas and cannot complain. It was clean rooms basic but we had good view over village and harbour,
Swimming pool excellent above hotel so good views over harbour.

2 mins walk to village, bars and tavernas.

You have free minibus to Monadrendri beach every day with return journey approx 1700 hrs.

Owners very friendly and helpful

Don't worry you will enjoy it there..........

Paxos is a fab island.

Hi Bill
Hope you are all well.
I have Nancy's number but she is not answering at the moment. The email addy she gave me is not accepted. I have found the business card and emailed the Amfitriti so I am now waiting for a reply. I have looked at a ferry timetable but only to end of April, how do they pan out because my local flight times are awful, can see me spending half the night on a bench at the ferry terminal, never mind.LOL.
Flights are expensive but there is only me to pay for so not too bad. Do you have Nancy's room rates?
Can't reply to pm not enough stars so sorry about this.

hello to you all,
i have news for Amfitriti hotel!!!!
i have been there twice and i came really close with all the family. it just happened to have their phone number in Athens. so i did call them and i found out that they have dropped olympic and finally they are on their own. they have a new web site www.amfitritihote.gr
where we can book directly. i was really surprised when i saw the prices.....they were really cheap and they can arrange also our transfer from gaios port to Amfitriti. and i mean Amfitriti!!!!!! and not Bastas-Lakka, and from there walking. i will be there in july, they will send me the schedule of the ferries and they said that if i can manage to have more people with me (like 10) they will book me a sea taxi on the same price. their phone number in athens is 0030 210 8229443. i know for sure that the first week of May they will be in Paxos.

I personally think the rates are much too high for what they are offering, 525 Euros per week high season. I know of hotels that are only charging £100 per week for the room high season for B+B. They have much the same views etc.
As I travel on my own it works out an horrendous price but it is still expensive for two people sharing.
Much as I loved it and the friendliness of the family I can't afford to go. It would cost me in the region of £1300 in total with flights and transfers to stop there for 2 weeks in August, then I have to feed myself.
So sadly I won't be going much to my disappointment.
