We want to build a swimming pool, largely by ourselves so will not have the back-up of an engineer re getting permits etc.
We know we will have to follow EOT guidelines re depth etc. but can anyone tell me who has done it themselves who you first apply to, what is needed, how long the permits are valid for etc.
We are not on the seafront and intend to build one of the kind that is filled once a year and then recirculates

The maximum depth you can have without having a lifeguard on duty (which I believe is 1.70)
There are also rules re fencing off access, and a villa owner acquaintance was made to sign that she accepted responsibility for everyone using the pool (in case of accidents) even though her house is in Paxos and she lives in Corfu- and rents through a tour company

Hi mmmmm swimming pool, complicated, you need to double check that planning is not required, if it is then an engineer is required to submit statics and the application. An above ground surrounded by decking might be the answer.
I am meeting with Sarah next week as she is doing some paperwork for us, and is very good. Can have a word with her if you have more background for us to work with.
The most important thing with a pool is not its size or depth but the volume of water contained. More water means bigger pump on for longer (expensive) larger sand filter, and more chemicals (expensive)
Our pool is 1m shallow end, 1.5m deep end, 40 m sq. Which seemed a reasonable balance for us. If you check out French Glass fibre pools you will see that they all have funny shapes at the bottom to give a depth of water in the middle, but reduce the volume of water
Hope this helps, if you need me to have a look or talk further I am in Corfu next week. Sarah has my number

I think that the "u" is actually a "v" sound in Greek (veta) so it is the pronunciation is always with the "v" if that makes sense.
I like the idea of a pool too but having a fight with myself as we have a house 700 metres from the sea and it seems a tad indulgent and perhaps not very ecologically friendly!

The guy who is a great friend is in the know about swimming pools, builds them for his own properties and helps others. He is a thoroughly trustworthy person. Based in Ag. Yiannis (golf club area) and married to a Greek lady.
His name is Paul and telephone number is
6974932408.
Good luck

Pretty certain you cannot build a swimming pool without getting an engineer involved to submit the application for a licence and then to deal with the Archaelogical Society inspections etc depending on where you live.
You can dig a huge hole for a septic tank without anyone coming to look at it but if you dig a huge hole for a pool, then the archaelogical society have to make sure you are not desecrating an important site!
Ditto you can do whatever landscaping you need without having to get them involved either!

Yes, think you are right- just had meeting with engineer who told me that you have to get permission from the Nomarchia in Corfu Town first even if little excavating is necessary. The Nomarchia permission is about 3-4000 Euros

Thanks for offer! Luckily as this pool is being built in an orchard, which has been an orchard for centuries, they shouldn't find anything underneath!
Isnt that where they do find them!!!!

You definitely need a permit for a pool, there is no question about that. Knowing the costs of a concrete one with the amount of reinforced steel concrete required and a minimum of 4,000 euros for the permit, I would definitely look into prefab. There are some really good quality ones. If you can't find someone here to do it, there are companies on the mainland, and with the current situation, plenty of competition.
Depending on the landscaping, you may also need extra retaining walls, all extra costs...because they do get a bit ' concrete happy ' here.
