Judy has passed on this letter to me which she has recieved from the General Secretary of the Prefecture of Corfu. I have her permission to share it with you.
subject: relocation of CDR
in relation to your letter of the 4th of June 2009 We were specially satisfied to learn that you gained for the CDR 6.2 stremata in the agricultural area of Doukades in which you are going to set up the new shelter for the abandoned donkeys The Prefecture of Corfu appreciate the important work that you do - the looking after and saving of the donkeys which when they grow old are abandoned by their ungrateful owners - a work which contributes in the reduction of cases that would hurt the culture and the image of Corfu in the eyes of the tourists
At the same time the function of the shelter as a visiting place gives the chance to students to come <<for the first time>> into contact with the donkeys which - even though for centuries were part of the ordinary life - are more and more rare to see being close to an endangered species. You can take for granted that the services of the Prefecture will be next to you in order to make the relocation of the shelter to its new place (owned by CDR). For any problem that you face we will be at your service so as to complete your efforts as soon as possible
The general secretary of the Prefecture

Well done Kostas Karvounis. What a relief for Judy. I am so pleased that common sense (and dare I say recognition of Judy's work) is finally be expressed by someone in authority. Wonderful news indeed.

Thank you for passing this on, Julia--wonderful news for Judy and Corfu. As Lavinia says, the recognition for Judy's work--and the offer of future help if needed--are the icing on the cake!

I spoke to Judy on the phone a couple of days ago and she told me about this long awaited support. She's had a difficult time recently and it was wonderful to, quite literally, hear the smile on her face as she was talking

When I saw the thread title "Support For Donkey Sanctuary", I was afraid it was another desperate plea for help. So pleased that it was positive news at last!
