Hi there

This is my first post to Agni.

I'm a big fan of Corfu and will be out for a few weeks later on in the summer.

I'm also thinking of visiting Kefalonia for a week in June. Where is the best place to stay? We'll be two girls travelling together. In Corfu, we love Barbati and Dassia. We want somewhere scenic but not too quiet. Don't need a nightclub but certainly don't want to be in bed by 12pm every night.

What would be the best resort? Any ideas on good reasonable standard accommodation?

Thanks
Jackie

Oh you lucky girl going to BOTH ! 'Scenic' is Kefalonia's 'middle' name Think if you like those two places on Corfu you'll probably like Scala, it has a bit of everything and nowhere is too far away if you want to go elsewhere. The last time I went to Kef, 5 yrs ago there wern't that many Nite Clubs anyway, unless you visited Argostoli! I hope you love the Island as much as I do!

Kefalonia
Hi JackieB,
Kefalonia is a very scenic Island and pretty laid back,if you want wild night life then it is'nt for you,but if you want friendly people with great hospitality then you are on the right Island. There are a few night clubs in Argostoli that stay open until dawn, but don't open until late, and you will have to aske the locals which ones are open as they tend to open some weekends and not others,so do seek out the locals for info.Lassi is a good base as it is not to far from the capital and also it has a good beach,it also has some very good Taverners, which are good for the local info on the night life in the capital,it also has a good bus service aswell as car and motor bike hire if required,do hire some sort of transport as the whole Islands scenery is breathtaking and well worth a few Euros on car hire.Hope this gives you an idea or two for your holiday. My wife and I love the Island and are going to the Island in summer for 3 weeks.

Hi JackieB,depends on where you are wanting to fly from,if you try Mytravel,Thomas Cook and ARGO,they all fly to Kefalonia,if you go out of school holiday times you will find it alot cheaper, but do it now as flights soon get booked up,we booked our flights in November last year but we are traveling in the school holidays as my wife is a teacher,so it's premium rates for us every time, good luck.

Spent the last four years in Corfu (Kalami/Kouloura), for a change this year we decided to try Kefalonia and are going to a villa near Katelios in mid June. Excited but nervous as it's the first visit and outside the Corfu "comfort zone". What should we expect? Amy tips greatly appreciated

Lindy,
Expect great hospitality, food & drink with breathtaking scenery you'll never forget. Get the biggest memory card you can for your camera. If you get stressed at home or work you should be fully unwound within 48 hours without a care in the world. The only bit not to look forward to is going home again. Finally the main thing you can expect is wanting to book again next year!

Like several people on this thread, we're going to Kephalonia this year instead of Corfu. We're staying just outside Fiscardo in Antipata - anybody been there?

Hi to all Corfu regulars visiting Kefalonia for the first time. For 2 girls looking at Lassi suggest the SILO Apartments with swimming pool or the Simatos studios and apartments which have swim pool opposite - these are not up in the hills and are close to the beach and easy walk to Lassi tavernas. For nightlife suggest one bar in Lassi under new management this summer ODYSSEY . Short taxi hop into Argostoli for more selection of tavernas and nightlife. If you want more help and advice contact me on email francesca (at) kefalonia - travel - guide . com
Also the 9 Muses in Skala great choice offering both tour operator hols with First Choice and Direct Booking available. Antipata is good choice for holiday because it is very close to Fiscardo but prices of accom and local tavernas are cheaper. For more information on the accommodation go to the home page of www.kefalonia-travel-guide.com and click on Accommodation section and from there select Lassi or Skala for contacts. For holidays to Antipata contact sales (at) agni.gr who have some great apartments with swim pool available. Happy Holidays
Francesca

Kefelonia is great, We were trying to get there this year but have had to abandon the idea for now.

As a general rule - I would say if you want sandy beaches then best visit the south of the island, which is more comercialised in general.   But for the views - you really need to be north - Assos is my all time favourite - but is a little cut off and very quiet although its stunning. The "resorts" of Fiskardo and Aghia Efimia are also great - but for Me Assos hits the spot everytime.   You will, however struggle to find accomadodation with a pool there.

Cheers

SIMON

Oh thanks everyone. Loads more tips. I think we'll stay in Lassi. Still looking at flights. On charter flights.co.uk there is a Saturday departure from LGW - does anyone know what airline this might be with so that we can look at booking directly?

One more question; are there any boat trips or can you hire the litte boats like you can on the beach in Corfu?

Thanks Jackie

Thank you all for your comments - am really looking forward to our holiday and yes, my job is stressful and Kalami has always had a magic effect so I am sure Katelios/Kefalonia will do the trick.

Hi JackieB,if you want to find a cheap flight to Kefalonia from London, try Matin Lewis Money Saving Expert.Com or FlightChecker.com we got a good deal for our flights in July,if you try Martin Lewis he also has links to other money saving flight sites.Yes you can hire boats for the day,and are well worth the effort as you will be able to get to the beaches that are not accessable from the road, just take plenty of liquid refreshments and something to eat, and enjoy a beach to yourselfs. The flights from London are most likely with either Airtours,Mytravel,Argo or Thomas Cook,we booked ours from Manchester with Thomas Cook Direct.Hope this helps, have fun and get that holiday booked, you won't regret it.If you want to see some photos of Kefalonia look at our profile on this site we have put some on of our time on the Island.
