Hi Top Chef, we were talking to someone a couple of years ago that was trying Paleo for the first time as an alternative to Kalymnos but highly recommended Normas Village as thats where they had been going for years and they were going back again that year. They said that the accommodation was good and the owners couldn't do enough for you so I'm sure that you will have a great time. I would be interested to know what you think when you get back. Whats the situation regarding the ferry as the flights I had looked at all arrived in the middle of the night? I assume you have booked it with a tour operator?

im guessing that you will be with olympic, we went to the same village a few years back and absolutely loved it, we did not stay at normas although our rep covered it too and reckoned it was just fine.when you are there you must check out the rock n blue bar on the beach run by kostas and gwen it is the coolest place wth the deadliest shots! and please say hi from kevin and joe, she finished up dancing with kostas behind the bar in a very happy state.
transfers are a bit of an issue there although if you treat it a part of the experience of greece its no problem. when you arrive you are taken to mastahari to await your ferry. you are dropped at a rstaurant who does pretty decent food and looks after your bags so you can have an explore. the ferries do run til quite late so no worries on that score the reps will also accompany you on the transport to the accomodation.
kalymnos is probably the daftest and least commercialised and most greek island we have visited so far and we love it to bits. you will return totally chilled.

We visted Kalymnos (via ferry from Mastihari) whilst staying on Kos recently. There was a police car driving constantly up and down the harbour road (think they were checking for vehicles parked illegally). The police car was also constantly sounding it's horn and that sounded awfully like a duck's quack.
I have heard or read somewhere that Kalymnos now has it's own airport but whilst we were at Mastihari we did see a group of people with cases and accompanied by an Olympic rep disembark from a ferry that had just arrived from Kalymnos. Perhaps the Kalymnos airport is still a work in progress or perhaps I'm mistaken?

hmm well the "airport" sits above the monastery above kantouni beach, built across two mountains and too short mercifully for chartered passenger aircraft, but not by design! it was nearly thirty years in the making originally planned by the old junta, along with the huge derilict hotel in kantouni, but finally opened last year i believe. it was something of a standing joke to the islanders. however olympic airways do now run a scheduled flight in on tiny aircraft. not sure i fancy it though.

Thanks Rocdoc. Built across two mountains! Sounds like it might be worth going to look at but, as you suggest, landing there could be something of an adventure.
