Left Swansea at 1.30pm on the Tuesday for Bristol Airport. Our flight was 7.20am on the Wednesday,so we decided to stay at a b/b near the airport. We chose ChaffMill, and what a lovely place to stay!!!
We got the airport flyer from Templemeads, and then ChaffMill picked us up free of charge!! Our acommodation was great! 2 bedrooms that slept 5 in total, lovely lounge with flat screen tv/sky etc, fully fitted kitchen, small bathroom with a power shower,no bath though.
Tea,coffee, etc provided for you along with a bowl of sweets and some choccy biscuits!!
Set in massive grounds, booking in was easy, very polite and helpful staff
We enquired if there was anywhere to eat locally and we were given a voucher for 20% off at the Fox & Goose pub and... also a free lift there and back
Food was delicious and for 2 steak meals and 2 drinks it came to £20...a bargain!!
ChaffMill then took us to the airport at 5am ready for our flight, they also gave us a packed breakfast which included 2 pieces of fruit, croissant(although it was a bit stale!)a small muffin and a carton of orange juice Would recommend this place, especially if you wish to use it as a base to tour from.
A little bit of useless info...but what a coincidence I thought, they had 2 delightful labradors, golden and black...their names were...Susie(my name) and Millie (my dog's name) Strange or what??? They also had a dog called doggy who was rather old and overweight but gorgeous and all he did was sleep outside our bungalow!!
Now we get to the best part...Viking flights!!
We booked in at 5am for our 7.20am flight.Took rather a long time, but we got there eventually. Thrilled to bits with the smoking area airside I was really calm and relaxed, train and coach journey had gone well too!!
Noticed that the boards were not changing for Kos,so assumed we may have a delay, but on looking out, could see our plane sitting on the tarmac 7.20 came and went,no info then a board update,no announcement whatsoever... boarding at 8pm!! Off we went now for a burger and as we sat down to eat, heard the one and only announcement...this is your last call for boarding flight 935 to Kos!!!Well what a mad scramble it was, flew to the gate still eating my burger....and asked the lady there what time are we flying? Now she told me,you have to board now,so no last ciggie for me But glad we were at last underway...or so I thought!!! Hustled us all onto the plane by 7.45am...still waiting for takeoff at 8.30!! We eventually got away at 8.44am.The reason for our 2 missed flight spots??? Booking in took too long!!!What a shambles! Plane was small and not full, and there were no latecomers...just slow staff.
Flight was quite smooth, had a slight hiccup because they had placed a couple with 2 small children in the exit seats and it wasn't allowed so they had to move them...and as there were empty seats people decided to play musical chairs much to the exasperation of the flight attendant who wanted them to stay in their allocated seats till after takeoff!! All to do with the weight distribution
Landed safely, went to get our luggage, only 2 flights in,ours and a Gatwick one.Waited ages for our cases along with most of the Bristol flight only to realise that they had mixed the conveyors up...half of our bags were on Gatwicks's carousel and vice-versa!!! Really funny to watch though.People running back and fore like nutters!!! Eventually got outside and had booked resorthoppa, found them ok and we were booked onto an Olympic coach...which had to go to Mastihari first to drop people off for their ferry to Kalymnos ...transfer took well over an hour as opposed to 20 minutes!!!
Brief resume of our holiday.
Apartments .... called Stena,Up a hill...Unsuitable as I have a bad chest...no mention of this anywhere or I would not have booked them...basic,1 bedroomed, very clean chose upper floor and had a good sea view...albeit over 2 large gardens/fields!! Lovely owner...Athinoula who brought us 9 fresh eggs from her chickens, for our breakfast
The resort... Very very quiet which is what I expected...but virtually a ghost town,a lot of derilect bars/tavernas,no entertainment apart from a quiz despite advertisements saying live entertainment 7 days a week!!!
Meals and drinks... Reasonable prices for food and every meal we had was excellent. Average 6-7 euros for a main course,2-3 euros for a starter and desert. Most bars were charging 3-50 euro a pint and same for shorts...although we found a gem of a taverna where they were only 1-50 euro!!! It was called Memory bar,and Yianni the owner was a great chap.Had the best of welcome every time we went there...which was most nights Lol
Can recommend...Marias,Sebastians,Santa Barbara,Stop in...the best roast lamb and roast potatoes!!...and many others.
The beach...what a disappointment...shingle,stoney,full of pebbles, had not been raked after the storms etc...I was devastated. Although the views were amazing, harbour very pretty and stunning sunrises. Sunbeds were free if you bought a drink at their taverna....others were 5 euro for 2beds and a brolly.
Weather...2 and a half days of thunderstorms!! Quite cloudy on other days with sunny intervals.
Would I return?...Yes,maybe,but as long as St George South exists I doubt it very much!!! People were lovely, but not a patch on SGS!!!!
Journey home delayed for an hour again no information given to us!! Same couple with 2 children...put into the same seats on return...same fiasco moving them etc!!! Woman on edge of our row of 3 seats did not stop talking to her boyfriend in the adjacent seat for the whole 4 hours and 10 minutes it took for us to get home!!! No chance of sleep at all!!! Because of delay, missed our train connection, had to wait 80 minutes in Cardiff and it was freezing!!!
Forget to mention we did the trip to Zia to see the sunset ...had a lovely meal in the rooftop restaurant called Taverna Ayli...Saw the sunset but it was quite poor...probably due to the cloud cover
All I can say is roll on September...back to St George South...my second home!!

well, what can we say, except, when you find somewhere as good as Corfu, it pays not to stray! We have been guilty of this in the past, and always compare wherever we go unfavourably...(funny enough we booked a holiday to Mastchari a few years ago but had to cancel, in a way sounds like we did the best thing!)
At least you had a nice break, and you do have SGS to look forward to!!!

Reading back, I hope it doesn't sound too negative, would hate to do that as the people were lovely!! It is as Lizzie says...once you have found your little bit of paradise it is so hard to find places that match up to it.
It was a nice (much needed!!) break and interesting to compare 2 Islands, but for me...Corfu cannot be beaten, especially my resort of St George South.
On a good point...managed to lose 5lbs in weight...it was all that walking uphill!!!
Cannot wait for September.
Besides Viv, I know my way there, so you can have a rest now
