Can anyone advise me how long it would take to drive from Parga to Meteora? Could we drive there and back in one day or would it be better to go on an organised excursion?

Hi Sue

We did this ..Parga to Meteora a few years ago now. It was one of the most memorable trips we have ever done and we will do again one day.

We hired a car and left Parga about 9am. We did a detour to the Pindos mountains (stunning) and then went on to Meteora arriving about 5pm. We found accommodation on arrival (September) and had a wonderful meal in the village, with us the only tourists about!!

Next morning I opened the shutters of our room to see the pinnacles of meteora right in front of us!! We were out and exploring as soon as breakfast was over!!

For us the trip was perfect. No rushing to get there. And once there we could enjoy the beauty without coachloads of tourists. ( When we arrived they had all left and when we got up next morning they were yet to arrive ...from 11 am the coaches pour in.)

Thanks Helen. Taking into account your detour to Pindos, how long do you think it would take to drive straight there? I know when I was in Halkidki several years ago we left at about 6am to arrive in Meteora in time to visit couple of the monastries before siesta. It is the most stunning place I have ever seen and I know Richard wants to see it one day.

Sue
