Hi Raym.

Coincidentally, I have been looking at the subject of Corfu Football recently, because of my interest in the game, and having seen Corfu play during visits when I was in the Navy.

I have found some information of interest. The Greeks love the game of football, and most of the villages on Corfu have teams. The Corfu Team, AO Kerkyra (Athlitikos Omilos Kerdyra - Athletic Club of Corfu) play in the Greek Division 2, but I do believe they are in good stead for promotion to Div 1. Games are normally played on Sundays, with odd one played sometimes on Saturdays.

This I thought brought a smile to my face. Most support Olympiokos, Panathinaikos, or AEK, however, if AO Kekyra were to play a big team in a cup match, the Corfiots would probably change their allegiance for the day.

There are many sites to look at on this subject, too many to list, but go to Google, or another search engine, and type in Corfu Football.

Regards

If I'm not wrong when I was at Taverna Agni last year, one of the waiters called George told me he played for a football team in Kassiopi. Maybes Nathan knows more on this??

If you can prove yourself, I would imagine one could join a football team on the island. There must be cricket teams also, having seen cricket being played on the Liston pitch in Corfu Town.

Excellent.  Well - there speaks a voice of football here !!!!  You may be a saving grace to me here.  Can u tell me something ?  It is roumoured that the Corfiots are doing very well in some league or other (don't now which) and it could mean that Olympiacos and a local team will be playing.  Will it mean that Kerkyra could play Olympiacos ?  If so - do you know where ?

Cheers !  Please keep us posted.

Hi Kev

Apparently AO Kerkyra will be promoted to the top league.  At least that is what we heard.  And yes that does mean they could be playing the well-known teams like Olympiacos.  Won't that be exciting if it happens!

Thanks Chris, I should have given them their proper name but I can never remember it!  I will update accordingly.
