There everywhere and we have them from the view from our balcony does anyone know what they are called, really tall and really thin, and I just love them!

They are Cypress trees. Common in all mediterranian areas.

We should be having 5 of these planted soon, one is 6m high, haven't given birth to any daughters though.

They are frequently planted to indicate a boundary between properties, especially in the olive groves where there are no fences.
They also form a cash crop when mature as the timber is very saught after.

I think the thin tall tree is male! and the stubby and shorter one is female wouldn't ya just know it!

We have one as a boarder Line to our Land it will have Pride and Place and will never be cut down.

Another reason why these particular trees were used for boundaries, is because they are flexible & rarely fall in high winds ......... they were used as a barrier to protect other more delicate crops & fruit trees from the elements.

I also seem to remember someone saying that Cypress trees were the most popular choice for telegraph poles - for obvious reasons!
