Not long to go now for winter holidays in Corfu and I was wondering if anyone can anyone recommend any nice restaurants or tavernas in Corfu town which are open in the winter? Or anywhere in Corfu in winter?

Many thanks

There are restaurants open all around the island in the winter.   It is not only tourists who patronise such places; the locals also enjoy eating out.   As regards recommendations they would depend upon the type of restaurant that you want; we have Greek (of course!), Italian, French, Chinese, British, etc., etc.

Anything but British! No offence but I don't go on holiday to eat British and don't really want tourist type restaurant either.  Quite happy with Greek but Italian and Chinese would be nice to. Are there any Chinese in Town open in the winter?

There's a Chinese on the way out of town, past the new port and maybe 1 mile up on the left. It's on the Disco Strip. It sits back a bit so is easy to miss. It's actually Chinese & Mexican, called Chopsticks & Chilli, but don't let that put you off. It's actually quite nice and the best Chinese I've eaten on the island.

I've had better in the UK and I have a particular passion for Soft Shell crabs in Peppercorn Salt but Chopsticks is very good for Corfu.

I'm not sure it's open at Xmas but others here will confirm. I hope it is as I plan a visit when we are down this year.

Corfu town has a plethora of good eateries and being Corfu Town the majority will be open. It's only the tourist areas that close completely.

There is an excellent Italian on Guilford Street. You walk up Guilford past the large church, cross a fairly main street of cobbles and about another 50 metres on your left is the restaurant right opposite a little church. I can;t remember the name but the Sword Fish carpaccio is to die for.

I've assumed you are going at Xmas but your post says winter but no doubt the places I mentioned will be open throughout the non tourist season.

Well good luck with your restaurant search and enjoy the fruits of Corfu when there are no tourists around. They are manifold.

The Italian restaurant to which Denis refers seems to be open even when everything else is closed. I would support his recommendation.

Elsewhere in Corfu - In Acharavi there is the Pumphouse, the Odysseus and the Italian who all open in the winter, although not every night.  There is also a nice Italian in Sidari which was open last winter.

The Face restuarant in Sidari (Melitsa end, near the canal da mour) is open all year round and the food is delicious

If it's Corfu town you're looking at - try Restaurant Rex (Kapodistriou 66).

The food is excellent, and it's well known as being one of the best on the island.

I heartily agree with Spiros, but the Rex seems to have restricted opening hours.

Have a look at Aghios Gordios forum and go to Colin Have you tried this one.

I challenged people to find this Taverna or (Cook House).  If you read through you will see that David has found this place and you can ask him for his comments.

Try the Bistro Boileau in Kontokali which is just north of Corfu Town. Owned by Sue and her Greek husband they will make you very welcome and the food is delicious. They stay open all year.

See Link  www.bistroboileau.com

The tiny Kouramios taverna, it looks like someones front room, but the food is gorgeous. Drive past the entrance to the airport and it is further down the road on your right, opposite the church. Park at the cake shop just before it as parking is difficult. They are open each day from 1 till 6 in the afternoon.

They also do takeaway. If we have a long wait at the airport we book in our bags then nip down for a nice meal.

If you want really yummy gyros and pittas, try Tony's grill room about 50m from Expert. They are the best I've ever had and it's a regular stop for us when we're in town. I even took my Dad there last year, it was full of Greek mechanics in their overalls after work. He loved it!!
