Accuweather has the temperature in Corfu at Minus five degrees! Are you all freezing? What is it like where you are?
Minus three outside my back door here in the North-east of England.

Temperatures vary tremendously- difference of five degreees marked on a drive between Corfu Town and Benitses! Middle of the island has frost and there is ice on some roads also. Sun lovely but no warmth in it.

We're quite high up and the temperature at 8.30 this morning was 2 degs. We have had a ground frost here which has stayed for the last three days. Yes, it's cold! The temperature dropped to 0.5 degs last night but had gone up to 1.5 by the time we went to bed. We have not had any minus temperatures yet.

Our friends in Kalami are still having their coffee outside in the mornings and say it's quite warm in sheltered areas. We couldn't do that up here without a few layers of thermals!

It's quite warm in Ano Korakiana, well in the sun. Still have coffee on the balcony in the mornings. It drops to around 4 or 5 degrees at night. No minuses yet though!

Just a tad cold! Think I probably lost a few plants last night. Think it got down to at least -7C last night, it was that in Acharavi at 8.00am.
Does anyone know what the lowest recorded temperatures for Corfu are?

The ruddy North Pole I think!!

We are in the NW just outside a Village called Gavrades.. close to Velonades.. in a valley, no neighbours and the snow covered Albanian mountains to the back of the house. It is absoloutely baltic! We have had an inch of frost on the sun loungers! But this is the first year that the pool has frozen over... Oh roll on Spring!

Pool frozen over for the second morning running (Karousades). It's my fault - I distictly remember saying to Julia - "Oh, no - we dont need to worry about winterising the pool - It will never freeze over in Corfu". Famous last words!

Both rivers in Sidari were partly frozen right near the sea this morning, and saw numerous 'leaks' where people have suffered burst pipes... our water only just running again.

It is extremely cold (even I wore a hat early this morning!)- but thank goodness there's no wind - so doesn't actually feel that bad to be out!

Angie - our place is at Termenades, up on the ridge on the Western edge of your valley, so I guess the temperature will be fairly similar there. I do hope my water pipes haven't frozen and burst otherwise I could be in for a pretty hefty water bill when I make my next vist in May!

Sorry Angie - can't afford flower pots - still struggling to finish the house properly.
Wouldn't do you any good though, the valve on my heating system is stuck on hot water, so you couldn't turn the heating on anyway

Whereabouts is your house Mrs.D?

My forniums, Birds of Paradise, Phoenix Palms, Campus, Bottle Brushes, Oleanders, Arum Lillies and Cannas all seem fine (I have learned over the last 4 years what to plant and what not to waste money on) My baby Orange Grove is wearing a very smart Agricultural Fleece, hopefully they will make it.

Should have wrapped the car in it! Oh well... Marathon Man has a spare engine in the workshop... Guess what he will be doing for the forseeable...

Not sure exactly minus what here, near Kassiopi and Kalami, but blooming freezing!!! Frost for days, ice on the horses water, hosepipe and standpipe frozen too today, and wearing lots of layers, and burning plenty of wood!!! Lovely sun though, and better than rain!!!

My father always told me to put a newspaper over the battery in the car to stop it being affected by the cold. I am about to brave the cold outside to do just that although we seem to be above the frost line where we are. No frost in our garden yet but quite thick ice on the puddles in the valley this morning.

An easy way to get a frozen battery to work is to switch on the sidelights for 2 minutes before starting the car. It sounds dumb, but it works. It is what we do when we are in Russia, and it gets really cold there!
The theory is that the small power drain from the lights causes the battery electrolite to warm up, which in turn makes the battery more efficient.

After 2 minutes turn off the lights and start the engine as normal but with the clutch fully depressed to take the load of the gearbox off the engine.

Hi Angie

My house is on the North East side in the hills above Sinies. The guy who planted the garden did say he would plant the more hardy species because of where my house is, so I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed. It's just that it was only planted in November and has not had very long to get established.

Unfortunately no agricultural fleece for my fruit trees either.

We're the same.

Planted new plants in September - bet they haven't made it.

Fingers crossed for the water pipe too - we left it turned off at the meter point but didn't think to run the taps to drain down. Left our lovely Greek neighbour to water the new plants so he would have turned the water on again anyway. Hope he thought to turn it all off again.
Fingers crossed. Hope the hardware suppliers have a good stock of water piping this May. Remind me to pack a wrench!!

Jo

Well... as it was Marathon Mans birthday yesterday, we went out to dinner... at 7.40pm it was minus 3... at 1.00am it had dropped to minus 7.... I figure that between 1.00am and say 5.am it would have dropped by at least another 2 - 3 dg... sorry guys, I was not about to leave my warm bed to check..but I guess we would have gone down to minus 9 - minus 10.

We are seriously considering ice skates now for the pool, its completely frozen over, no water in the downstairs bathroom and laundry room but fortunately the rest of the supply is OK.

Keep warm everyone!

Like everyone else we have had interruptions in the water supply. I think its being turned off in Sinarades at night to stop the village pumps/pipes from freezing, which seems to be working so far (touch wood).

Went for a walk up Aerostatos yesterday to collect pine cones to light the fire with (better than any firelighter) and there was still thick frost and ice on the ground in the shade.

The sun is lovely and I am getting a lovely tan on my face from walking in it. Unfortunately my face is the only part of my body being exposed in this cold weather.

It has been freezing in the wind or once you step out of the sun into the shade. I bought some ski thermals from Lidl a few weeks ago and they have been my best purchase ever!

Last week I invested in a fake fur lined fleecy jacket from the Chinese shop sale and its perfect for layering with all my jumpers, thermals, leggings and boots, not to mention the pashmina around my neck and face and thermal gloves. Roll on summer!

Well - how selfish can you get Angie Fancy not leaving your bed in order to keep us all up-to-date with the weather conditions
Only joking - Happy Birthday to Marathon Man, hope you had a great evening.
Look on the bright side - with all the ice-skating practice you will be able to do you can put in for the next season of "Dancing on Ice" lol

Last night on bed Mr M complained of having cold feet!
Tell me where they are and I'll put one in the bed, said he!

You'll have a long journey I replied, as they're in Corfu!
What on earth are they doing there, he asked!

Don't you remember January 2008 frozen water, frozen hosepipe and freezing bed?
The hotties also go in the bed in Corfu in March April May or when ever we arrive---they air the bed just great!

My thermals, jumpers and boots are still there---I need them in the UK now

The thermometer at the top of this page is pretty accurate by my thermometer's reckoning (which is in the Loustri area). My thermometer showed a minimum of zero degrees Celsius three nights ago. Colder than we normally expect in winter here.
Best,
BB.
