I have just had the final e-mail from my on-line tutor confirming I have passed my TEFL course. For anyone that hasn't heard of it, TEFL means - Teach English as a foreign language.

This doesn't mean that I am qualified to teach in any school but it did give me a good idea as to whether or not I'd be interested to carry on studying or not.

I did enjoy completing it, although I don't think I chose the best company to do it with so I think I'd quite like to carry on and get a TESOL diploma which is the recognised teaching qualification in Greece.

I just can't wait to hear all those little Greek children running round chatting with a South London accent, innit.

Nice one Alison!   I've been thinking of doing a TESOL course; which one are you thinking of doing?

Thanks Jan and Becky.

I'm thinking about doing the full on diploma but on-line. I haven't decided which company yet, I'm going to have a good look at their accreditation and samples of the coursework.

I didn't like the way the coursework and tutor support was set up on my TEFL course so I want to make sure I'm getting the best support for my money. It's worth looking at some of the TESOL student forums as you get an idea of what to look out for.

Thank you Sea bubs and Angie,

I'm still based in the UK at the moment don't take any notice of my profile, Riza is where I used to live on Kefalonia.

Don't worry Ange, I'm on a mission to teach them the English alphabet without any h's and I'm sure we don't need all that grammar stuff either. I think pronunciation is important though, what with t's being mainly silent at the end of words and th's sounding more like ff' ot v's - as in Smiff's (Smith's) and eiver (either). I fink it's best keepin it real.

I heard a couple of new words for money today, a fiver is a lady - Lady Godiver and £15 is a Commodore - 3 times a lady. I have written them in my 'Teach them this' book.

Hi Ya

Many congratulations - I'm really pleased for you!

Thanks for your previous encouragement. I've now got to module 4 - so maybe I'll finish sometime. (slowly but surely springs to mind!)

The very best of luck for the future.

Well done Heasley. It is a bit of a slog isn't it.

Thanks to Tipo, you were very helpful in helping me understand what direction I needed to go in. I've started saving to pay for my TESOL course, only £495.99 to go

Paxos

Well done Alison

Thanks to my Sister having lived in London and then Essex for a few years my nephews in Paxos speak their English with a strange accent. When friends there hear me with a good old Yorkshire accent they cant believe we come from the same family. I also try my best to get the boys to speak reet good lake what I do. Bath, grass, bus for starters I am having a problem with. They just refuse to pronnounce them in a way that indicates their true family heritage.

Problem is most of the other English Mums out there are from darn sarf too so my bid to get a bit of Yorkshire over there is an upward struggle. Good fun trying though!!

Nuffin wrong with comin from darn sarf tho is there, lol.

Keep trying with the Yorkshire accent, it might catch on.

My niece who was brought up in Brixton until she was 7 and then lived on the South coast until she was 11, now lives on the Isle of Man. In 3 years she's developed a full blown Manx accent now. Her brother and her dad haven't so she's the only one of a family full of southerners that don't speak proper like wot we do, innit.
