Feta cheese is the food from heaven, but when I buy it in England its either from sheep or goats?

Can anyone tell me which is the best to buy??

Sorry to seem thick, but I just love the stuff!

Hi Purrypuss,

Im not sure really.

The nicest feta we have is bought from the supermarkets, its in a small plastic container. It says Discovery on the lid, inside the feta cheese is mixed with suffed green olives, raw garlic, herbs and olive oil, its absolutely scrummy!!! lovely for salads, and the left over oil and herbs is great for a salad dressing just stick some balsamic vinegar in with it, or use the oil for cooking chicken fillets or pork etc, it gives it a lovely flavour! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. lol

Mmmm - You're making my mouth water!  I can remember a few years ago you could buy Feta hardly anywhere over here - but now it's available in almost every supermarket - thank goodness!  Can't beat it with a plate of kalamata olives and a glass of retsina!!!!

Just got back from our local market in Wimborne. There is a guy out there who is of Greek origin, and has his own stall selling all types of olives, fete cheese, sweet things, Bavlava cakes (spelling), and Cheese Pies.

Today we brought the last two blocks of Feta cheese, and the guy gave me the oils they were in from the container, filled two jars. Coincidentally, he said use the oils for salad dressings, or as Jo said, for cooking chicken or pork. We also brought a large container of Kalamata Olives, and some others with peppers in them. A dozen cheese pies, and a dozen Bavlava cakes.

This should keep us going for a while, hopefully.

No Jo, well I hope not . This should last us a couple of weeks until we go again. However, I cannot see the pies and cakes last for two weeks, we have my two sisters and their hubbies around tomorrow for dinner and tea.

Should have got more. Never mind..
