HI

Can someone tell me if an English DVD player will work with a Greek TV?.
My friends in Corfu do not have one and I happen to have a spare small one was wondering though if it would work ok and if so will it be ok to take in my hold luggage.

Thanks Sue

Hi

Your DVD will work fine ! -  The TV system in Greece is PAL - same as UK - the American system NTSC and french system of Secam are not used - so you will be OK -  bear in mind that you will need to use the twin pin socket adapter - and be sure to take some Scart cables

Yes it should work fine.   It will play Greek Dvds as they are the same region as the UK (Region 2 same for the whole of Europe)

It would have been a problem if it was a DVD Recorder as it will have a tuner to receive the TV channels   in order to record them.  (audio on TV channels are at a different frequency in Greek compared to the UK so there would have been an image but no sound)

But I assume this is an ordinary standard DVD player (no recorder)  So it is fine.  I got one from the UK  connected to my TV via a scart socket works fine.

Hi Sue

I have taken two cheap dvd players on seperate occasions and both worked fine on a "greek tv" no problem at all, I took a standard scart lead from the uk.

Regards

Scart lead will work anything so make sure you take one and if a pal/secam TV no problem at all. I took a video player about 15 years ago and it played through the scart lead but you couldn't record Greek TV

Spritzer,

Be sure to connect your DVD player to the TV via a SCART cable. If you use a TV aerial output you could have problems with the sound. With the SCART lead video and audio are fed direct into the TV bypassing any tuner.

Can anybody tell me if there are any programmes broadcast that aren't in Greek over the normal Greek Television network?

Yes, most evenings there are films etc in English with Greek subtitles.

Currently "Lost" is airing on Antenna (a Greek channel) every evening at 11pm with an omnibus 4 episodes back to back from 2pm on Sundays.
