Hi Hodgins.

Please take a look at the link below on the beaches of Corfu. Alykes Potamos beach is a lengthy beach consisting of Sandy and Pebbly sections.

Best Wishes.

Hi Hodkins

Broadly speaking, if you look at a map of Corfu, the Eastern side is predominately stony, and the Western side sandy. The North---- Sidari, Roda and Acharavi are course sand with soft smooth sand underfoot when bathing.

Corfu

Our grandchildren who are 6 and 8 have always played for hours in the UK on sandy beaches so I was a little worried about them getting fed up on stoney beaches when we took them to Corfu for the first time a few weeks ago. Don't worry, they loved it. We took them to Acharavi one day so they could play on a sandy beach, but they complained and wanted to go back to Agni where they could attempt to throw most of the beach back into the sea and also try to catch the fish with their fishing net.

The reason for the stones on this coast is the protection from the weather due to its proximity to Albania. This means that the sea is much calmer and safer for the children to play  in. It's supprising what children will find to do when they have a beach and some water.

Take the bucket and spade. They will always find some sand on most beaches.

Hi Hodgins,

a lot of the stones are flat - you could teach him to skim them across the sea- it will be calm enough unless the wind is strong or a big ferry/cruise ship went by about 20 minutwes ago - provided no one is swimming of course.

Sandcastles or not he will find plenty to do i'm sure.

have a great trip.

It does say it's a long Sandy beach although this is a very protected part of the coastline so I find it unusual. Maybe they shipped a load of sand in when they built the hotel. I went to the beach in this area many many years ago before they built the hotel and it was not good then but they do build sandy beaches nowadays so this is what may have happened. Being protected, the sand would not wash away very quickly

Let us know when you get back.

Hi Hodgins,  The people on the plane next 2 us stayed at the hotel you r going 2 and although they did not mention the beach they raved all the way home about how wonderful there holiday had been and how fantastic the accommodation was. we have just returned from a fantastic holiday in Barbati. This has a stony beach. I would thoroughly recommend taking jelly shoes or flip flops for you and your children just in case, as it can be quite painful underfoot.

hi hodgins

we have experienced most types of beach on the north and east coast and wether it be sandy shingle or pebbles i am sure you will have the best holiday when we visited a stoney bweacg my children still built a castle but just one built of stone when you are having such a fab time whether the beach sandy or stone you just get on with it that is what i found but i have to say i had the same worries before as you do but when you are there it seems all yhe things you worry about before you go pale into insignificance. i still worry about things now even though i know when i get there sidari corfu is such a wonderful place i will wonder what i made a fuss about. have a great time as will we as we are there friday.

Just got back from a great holiday in San Stephanos and there is a beautiful long sandy beach at Kalamaki which is not far from Kassiopi. You can build as many sandcastles as you like there.
