Hi Nez here, info needed about Kefalonia. A client went to the place my wife works the other day, my wife told her we were thinking of going to Corfu on holiday this year, she said she had been to Corfu years ago, but had been to Kefalonia 3 times, she thought it was a better place for whatever reason. I have seen Kefalonia or bits of it on the tele Captain Corellis Mandolin and it looked a lovely place, but other than that we don't know much about it, ie do you need to fly to Corfu and then get a ferry to Kefalonia? That seem's a bit messy to me but if it's a lovely place it would be worth it! Any tips on how to get to Kefalonia etc...would be very helpful. Many thanks Nez! P.S Any info from people that have been on holiday there is always the best!

Nez I am a Corfu regular but I know Jimmy 66 and Thea are Kefalites so they will be able to assist with regards to the island.
What I can say is that you fly direct to Kefalonia - no hopping on ferries etc - it's a direct route hoping to try the island out for myself next year too.
Happy Holidays

Hi Nez
Have been to Cephalonia on three occasions, each time on sailing trips (although we did hire a jeep and have a drive around).
My overall impression is that it is both less green and more mountainous than Corfu, with some really wild places. The scenery is stunning, and there are some beautiful places - our favorite is Assos, on the north west coast. Unfortunately, there are very few old buildings on the island (with the exception of Fiscado, which is built on clay) due to the damage caused by the 1953 earthquake - so vividly described in Capt. Correlli.
A small tip - if you decide to drive around the island, do it clockwise; that way, the big drops will be on the other side of the road (and some of the drops are VERY big, with no barriers, the last time we did it).
Didn't have time to look round when we visited last May as we were behind schedule, so only visited Fiscado (The Captain's Table - excellent, but a little expensive) for lunch.
Martyn.

Now if I am being really honest I preferred Corfu but then that was nearly 20 years ago! Kefalonia is much less developed than either Zante or Corfu.
It is stunningly beautiful in places! Flights are direct to here from most regional airports, I think there are around 35-40 UK flights this year. They dont allow night flights here so most will have reasonable times!
Resorts-well that depends on what you want. Fiscardo-beautiful, expensive and supposedly cosmopolitan! But there are some little gems up there to be enjoyed in the low part of the season.
Assos-very pretty, bit remote but a lovely atmosphere. Skala and Lassi-not my cup of tea but some folks just love them-to touristy for me! Sorry folks!
Sami and Aghi Efimia are both very popular and scenic!
Katelios or Lourdas would be my choice-thats why I live between them! Some stunning views and lovely beaches, Kaminia, Mounda, St Barbaras, Koroni, Lourdas, Kanali, Trapezaki! God I could go on for hours! Roll on the summer!
Then there are the places to visit Drogarati, Mellisani, St Gerasimos, Mt Ainos, Iruselem, Alaties, Ag Sophia, Horgata.
Car hire is essential and yes do it clockwise-made that mistake many years ago on a motorbike-scary!
Try it and I bet you will come back again!

Probably quite a difference between Poros and Lassi on any given day and after a few years-well you will just have to let us know your thoughts!
Depends why you have chosen Lassi, personally don't like the village but the beaches are just stunning! Poros, the scenery is stunning but beaches, well it is a port. Love the town though.
