A SCAFFOLDER

Hi Birmingham,

A few weeks back, me and the missus booked a day trip to the Paxi Islands from the St Georges South resort and whilst on Captain Costa's boat we had two beautiful Dolphins swimming along side us.

Costa's who's a good friend of ours shut the boat engine down and the Dolphins came up and and popped their heads out of the sea a few times and swam off, truely amazing.

If you are thinking of going on this trip which is well worth the 23 Euro's we paid, I would recommend using Captain Costa's services, a true gent in every word.  His boat caters for around thirty people with refreshments on board.  The boat trip last's from 8am till about 5.30pm and you visit two Islands, Paxos and Anti -Paxos.

Hope this helps

Danny

I did read on one of the sites referring to Captain Aris boat trips running out of Kassiopi or Kalami, that they occasionally see Dolphins on their trips, when running out to Erikousa, and the other islands on the North Coast of the island. However, it is not a regular thing, so be aware, do not expect to see them.

Best Wishes.

Hi everybody,

Every year we've been sailing for a few weeks around the Greek waters, also a few times in the Ionian. In the Ionian we've seen dolphins mostly around the islands Lefkas/Kalamos/Ithaka.

Take a look at Ionian Dolphin Project at http://www.tethys.org/tri_training/training_idp/tr_idp_index.htm

I know from time to time there are some dolphins spotted around Corfu/Paxos, the best time for dolphin-spotting is earlymorning.

Greetz,

Cpt. Koeni

I've just had a rather patronising telling off about my first ever post from the admin team.

just to put the record straight, ofcourse there are infact loads of dolphins off the coast of corfu.....

my previous comment was made in jest, only after reading the above posts which to me sound like, nothing more than a re-written press release.

Hi HOTFM

I am sorry if any admin pm came across as patronising, I am sure it was not intended to be so.

It is very easy for comments on the boards to be taken the wrong way which is why we use emoticons to show when we are intending light-heartedness or anger or whatever.  If you click on the smiley icon when you are writing a post then you will see many different faces displayed.  Double-click the one you wish to use and it will be inserted in the text where the cursor is.

Many apologies again, we don't make a habit of upseting new members.

We were very excited to see dolphins off the coast of Gouvia in the last week of October.

We had hired a boat for the afternoon from the jetty and all thought my 8 year old was having us on when she said she had seen sharks! She was insistant she had seen black triangles in the water but no-one believed her until we all saw dolphins (maybe 2 or 3) surfacing right in front of us.

Needless to say dolphins are now her favourite animal! Does anyone know of any charities based in or around Corfu/Greece which offer 'adoptions'?

Hi All

After years of boat trips and not seeing more than flying fish, I didn't bother last year and guess what...Dolphins were off the coast of Messonghi, typical they've obviously been hiding from me , never mind I'll catch then out next year, hopefully.

i have been here in corfu for only 4 years and live in gouvia marina and most day's go fishing mainly afternoon and this year had the best score at least 14 dolphins 4/5 babys grey and white in the middle of october throughout the year i have proble sited them on 18/20 times some times just the same one of of ipsos. But if you realy want to see a sight look out for 2 fins on the surface close together this will turn out to be a manta ray ASK THE CAPTAIN TO STOP THE BOAT AND ENGINE and watch we had one flying around our boat for over 15 mintues just looking at us and us looking at it over the last four years we have seen three the biggest about 2.5 mtrs wingspan it brought a big lump in my throat to think man still kills this lovely fish(no not me)
