Depends on the airline and this year it also depends when you bought the ticket as it changed in the middle of the year.
With some airlines you have to pay a suppliment to take any hold luggage.

Hi Pete,
Better check it out with your airline. If you go over your allowance it can work out quite costly. (I speak from experience!)
This year to save on weight we decided to buy our shower gel/shampoo etc. from Boots at the airport (remember to take your advantage card!) It's surprising how heavy they weigh in the case.

Hi Pete
As others have said you need to check your tickets. We bought flights only with thomson and only had an email for our tickets. Our hold luggage was included but had we bought our tickets after October we would have been able to take 10kg of hand luggage only without paying extra. We were lucky we could take 20kg in the hold and 5 kg hand luggage.
So it varies you need to check your airline.

hi first choice allow 20kgs hold and 5kg hand luggage, but as everone says check your ticket, also this year we saw at corfu airport they were checking weights and some had to take things out of their suit cases or pay excess, some did take out clothing only to put it on and go in looking like michalan man lol

With Thomas Cook for 2 weeks time, I have had to pay £15 each to increase the hold weight from 15 to 20kG each. That's 5kG for me and 35kG for my wife!!!

general rule of thumb is that the budget airlines allow you less of a luggage allowance (and make you pay huge amounts for more), and the bigger airlines (ie BA etc) are more likely to have allocated more allowance per passenger. If the flight isn't full, you will often find that the check in staff are more flexible over baggage allowance, but of course you need to have a crystal ball to know these things in advance!

I'm flying with easyjet this October and there is no weight restriction on hand luggage although easyJet does apply a reasonable limit — i.e. you must be able to place the piece of luggage safely in the overhead storage bins without assistance, and maximum dimensions of the hand luggage must not exceed 55x40x20cm.

I think that you will find that the maximum allowance is 20kgs, even for hand baggage. Mind you, getting that amount into the defined size of bag will be quite a challenge (should you wish to accept it
Having taken only hand baggage on my last two visits to Corfu (about 10 -12 kgs) I must say that the system works very well

I'm abit confused by how much i should be taking in my suitcase.
When I booked ( going with olympic flying with monach) I was told the weight was 15kg unless I paid extra to have 20kg. The hand luggage was 5kgs. As we are going for just 1 week and i'm not going to take so many clothes/shoes this time, ha ha, I said no thank you. Now looking at my tickets as you have advised I see it says 20kg. I am right in thinking this is the suitcase weight and not the suitcase and hand luggage conbined?
Feeling just a bit thick this morning

Helen, If you are anything like my friend Sue, she even takes her slippers! I've known her take out clothes just so she can add more shoes! I always put an outfit, undies, bather and a pair of sandals in my hand luggage just incase my luggage goes missing - my Mum lost her case once and had it returned to her the day she was going home.

Tina, same here. And like you I now pack a bikini (they NEVER have a big enough cup size abroad) and a spare pair set of undies in my hand luggage! I wonder whether I'm now whats called 'sensible'or am I paranoid? (If you could see how many labels go on and in my suitcase, just in case!!)

Hi Pete,
As everyone else as said, best to check with your airline/ travel agent as you don't want to turn up at the airport with 5kg over and have to pay megabucks for excess baggage.
