Hi
The question of taxi prices often comes up on these boards so this example of high charging might be of interest.
No names, Nathan, but a certain company which comes up very near the top of a Google search (sponsored placing) for "Taxis in Corfu" and so will attract many 1st time visitors who don't know any different has some interesting prices.

For example: Airport to Agios Georgios North 53 UK pounds (i.e 77 euros) where the usual price is 40 -45 euros. Similarly for Sidari, Acharavi.
Others are: Agios Stefanos and Arillas 81 euros, Gouvia 46 euros; Kalami 68 euros.

I thought it was only a few rogue drivers who were ripping off customers to that degree.

Let's hope that many visitors find this Message Board before they book.

 Blimey!

We took a taxi to the airport from Gouvia last year,to pick up our hire car. We had been there a few days before we were due to pick the car up. The taxi fare from Gouvia to the airport, was 15 euros. As always,we agreed the fare before we got in.

I've booked our mini bus this year from the Airport to Kassiopi from Kostas Sarakino at the TRAVEL CORNER in Kassiopi..Cost €240=£164 return..we would have had to get three taxi anyway at €40/€50 each taxi one way..this way we are altogether.. But after booking them on the internet I had made a mistake and Kostas phoned me to tell me here in England that I had only booked one way and did I want returning to the airport and I said yes...and as I had only paid €120 on my card ..he said "No Problem you pay the other when you come"

One point to remember when booking accomodation is to ask the owner if he can arrange a taxi for you. Most apartment owners know taxi drivers who charge set fares agreed with the apartment owners due to the amount of business.

We do know that recently taxi fares have risen, but it is still possible to get a taxi from airport to Roda for approx €40-45 and some apartment owners have deals so that the fare is €38-40 when booked in advance.

Also some times it can work out cheaper to book a hire car from the airport to your destination.  To give you an idea, we can usually arrange a hire car for approx €28 per day and add €6 petrol for single journey = €34

I know the prices quoted above in dcakeb's post do seem expensive but not everybody feels comfortable with trying to sort out taxis when they arrive at the airport.  Some people may expect to find that none of the drivers will speak English and panic that they will be left stranded in a foreign land.

I know that sounds extreme but, believe me, there are plenty of folk out there who feel like that.  They would probably rather pay an extra few quid to know that they have got things sorted out before they arrive.

Hmm, perhaps that could be a good job opportunity for me on the island - arranging honestly-priced taxis for flight only arrivals!!

Radio Taxis don't seem to be to bad. 40 euros to sidari i though was alright. Its about a 40min drive...if i got in a taxi here for a 40 min drive it would probaby be about double that. And there is a set rate so the taxi drivers can't take you the long way round and try to charge you more (like that georide taxi driver on that advert.)

I do agree with what stuart says, i couldn't try and get a cheaper fare. If it was a blantent rip then i wouldn't get in. But its that thing of each to there own.

The Taxi in Kassiopi has always charged us 30-35 euros to the airport and that hasn't changed in the last few years.Always agreed before we travelled though.

Jan that's a good deal you've got there i payed 40euros 3 year ago (are you going to tell us who to book with?) that's why i now book a car from a place  in kassiopi to pick up at the airport  for 3 days = 75 Euros and 3 days before we return book it again and drop it of at the airport total cost 150 euros and we have the car for 6 days to do as we like. We do it this way as we holiday in kassiopi for 3 weeks and to hire it for the full term would be very expansive.

Davyboy.

I've had a little look at whats the difference between 35euros and 55euros that you may pay for a taxi I think It adds just another £26 on a return journey to the airport..I can pay more for a trip here in the uk if the driver think you have had a bit much to drink..Like Watford to Hemel Hempstead about 8 miles and ask for £50....YEA RIGHT PULL THE OTHER ONE SON..heres a tenner
