The Post Office wants to charge us £15 fee for sterling travellers cheques we normally take euros as cash but following advise on this site thought sterling cheques changed in Corfu would get better exchange rate.
Does anyone no if this charge is just from the post office or do banks charge also?

Charges vary from one bank to another, so you really need to look at your own bank's website to find out what, or if, they charge. But if you've felt safe taking euros in cash before, why not just take sterling in cash?

Everybody charges for sterling travelers cheques on the basis that it is the only way that the seller makes any money on the transaction.

Value plus charges no commission on sterling cheques or cash with a rate of 1.23 however euros cheques are charged at 2%. Some places offer 1.26 with 2.5 or een 3 % commission so shop around and I think you will get a better deal just bringing Engish money.

Sorry but I think they after finding out what the final cost would be as they normally take euros as cash (Not the best rate if you do that in the UK) not cheques. So again I would point out that you get a better rate in the resort if you take English money. I again say you can get sterling cheques changed with no commission, but for that you pay £15!!!!! After all wha we are all after is getting the maximum return for our money with no outla if possible are we not?

Hi agni-fishingboy,
Before you take cash to Corfu, I would suggest that you check with your travel insurance company as to how much you are covered for, as some insurance companies only cover the first £250, so if you unfortunately lost the cash, you would have no recompense.
We have a Nationwide Flex account, which gives you free transactions from ATM's worldwide.
From other posts on this site, several people have said that it only takes 10 days to appply for and get this card.
If you have time it may be well worth considering this.
