Going back to Roda for the 5th time in 23 days and was wondering what spray on insect repellent people are using. I have used Jungle Formular in the past but have found it can irritate the skin and sting, is there a good alternative available to this.
Thankx
Lea

Been visiting roda every year now for the past 14 years and must admit the mozzies are a nuisance but I swear by Boots Repel Plus (Yellow and black tin) never have a problem with this. Hope this helps

My Dad swears by Wrights Cole Tar soap, it's not the best smelling of soaps but the smell does not last long once you are dry. They don't like it apparently. I've not tried it myself but he has not got bitten since he started using it. Make sure you buy sun lotion and after sun with insect repelant and use the aftersun even if you are not burned.
When you get there buy some yellow insect repelant candles. light them and leave them in the sink when you go out in the evening. If you put them in the sink while they are burning then there is little chance of burning down the place. The candles will stop mossies coming into you room.
You could try spraying fly killer into your room just before you go out for the evening. Hopefully the smell will be gone by the time you come back and the mossies will not come into your room.
well good luck I hope you get the blighters before they get you, have a good holiday.

GordiosBrian, i agree with you Autan is brilliant.
We only got to know about it last year when we asked one of the locals what they used and she showed us a bottle of that. It really does work. Other people on the island were covered is bites, especially on their legs and me and my boyfriend had none.
Anything that bites usually goes for me but last year i was saved!

We go in the middle of July, so I imagine that will be in the peak of mozzie season then, so shall go well prepared.
One of my daughters, has a fit if a teeny greenfly comes anywhere near her, so goodness knows how she will cope knowing that these little blighters are out to suck her blood!! Lets just hope that she doesn't taste nice.
Regards,
Granton

Eat plenty of Marmite is the secret apparently! The smell is emitted through your skin and the mozzies hate it!! Mind you, so do lots of people, so it's not ideal for many of us I guess.
We keep the plug things in day and night, and burn the citronella candles.

All types of Avon Skin So soft (woodland fresh). Have been using for many years to keep Mozzies at bay.I also use at home for most of the summer in west coast of Scotland to fend of Midgies.

We use Jungle Formula (roll on one) and always take it out with us to top up as the night goes on. The roll on on just fits into a pocket so is really handy. In our apartment we use the plug ins and citronella candles.

We found that 'Mozzie guard' was a good one and eat lots of garlic and tadziki. that keeps most things away. although, the tzadziki gives me botty burps and nothing come's near me then, not even the wife.
LOL Alex

We have always used Avon Skin So Soft Woodland Fresh, but have just received our order for this year but they have sent a different variety called Soft & Fresh. Can anyone tell us if this works the same.

Hi guys, the Avon SSS range was re-vamped at the start of the year........they claim the new product has the same properties, although a slightly different fragrance (I liked the old one as well).
Will wait and see......

I bought Toyal Traveller - samsonite anti-mosquito wristbands yesterday - never used anti mossi stuff before but never been to corfu before either! You all said mossis were a problem - dont know if they work - any comments but if they do they are a snip at £3.99 in Wilkinsons pack contains 2.

chris (sailor) told us to take odourless garlic tablets a week before we flew out and it worked. i (leigh) was the only one who got bit and i only had one bite. this was amazing for me as i am usually eaten alive (they see me as a four course meal).
hope this helps. we gave it ago even though we were sceptical, so cheers chris!

I get eaten to death by mosquitos and find that Boots Mosquito Milk is brilliant. It doesn't smell bad and you just roll stripes over your exposed bits - no need for total coverage. However, after reading this site I'm currently taking garlic capsules and am going to try and eat marmite whilst on holiday although I hate the stuff!

Just an update on the "eating marmite protects you from mossies" thing!
I work for the Leeds NHS and we got the local newsletter today and apparently some research has been done into the Marmite and mossie thing and it has proved very succesful, so successful they have got funding to do some research and are recruiting volunteers to take part in a trial to see how good it works, so I am going to give it a go, even though I cant stand the stuff!

Hi Trace,
Chris Seangler will probably verify this or correct me. I can remember him telling me in Weymouth that it use to be Beef Extract, but because of the various problems in the past with this, it is now totally yeast extract, hence the link between Marmite and the brewery where he works.
I think that was it.
Cheers babes, xxx
