Hi, has anybody booked a cheap holiday package to Corfu instead of flight only before and maybe stayed with friends or family, therefore not using accomodation booked. If so had any problems doing this and do you need to inform them that you wont be using the appartment.

Hi

This subject crops up frequently. There should be no problem using alternative accomodation, as you suggest. It would, however, be good form to advise the tour rep of your actions so they don't thing that yopu've gone AWOL. You may also have to confirm the details of your return flight yourself as you will be outside the loop as far as the reps are concerned.

You need to let the rep know what your doing and find out what the travel arrangements (i.e time etc) are for going back to the airport if you will still be looking to use their bus.

If the accommodation has all been paid for it really makes no difference to them if your staying there or not - think its more a case of just nice manners, saves maybe a cleaner etc coming in the room or reception keeping an eye on it when theres not anyone staying in it.

Do keep in touch with the TO if you do decide to go your own way, and ring their local office  a couple of days before coming home to check that the flight  details are the same and to indeed confirm that you intend flying back with them.

What is the reason for doing it this way. Is it because there are no flight only deals or does some flight companys only reserve the plane for the package holiday.

Hi Wilf,

You can still get flight only deals, but on many occasions they're substantially more expensive than some package options.

Hi Wilf

Sometimes people who go independent  can get the package cheaper than the flight only...

Then you just use the flight part of it and get you'r own accommodation in the resort of you'r choice...

I've done it in the past and saved nearly £100 on the flight

Also gives them a chance to re-let and make a little extra money for the long winter months to come. So make sure the accommodation owners know you are not using it the reps may not bother! As their company have already been paid.

I booked a package holiday in the spring time for one week, decided to stay for a month so missed my flight home.  I did use the accommodation for the time I was booked in though in the South of the Island before going to the north for a few weeks and staying in private accommodation. Flights home were very cheap.

Ive found flight only return from Bristol at a good flight time 06.00am for around £175 pp ( including all supplements ) at the end of May begining of June for 2 weeks.  So are you telling me I can get a package holiday for less than £175 cus if they exist I wanna know where

I am pricing up options at the moment so far the best Ive done idependent flight and accomidation wise is £1313 for 4 adults 1 child in an 8 person villa for 2 weeks in Sidari.  Am i doing well or need to try harder?

Cheers

I did say "on many occasions" Blast.

But rest assured, at certain times of year you can most definitely find packages that come in cheaper than the independent option.

Many folks find good deals that way.

Blast......Of course they exist!

This is a topic that is discussed regularly on this site and a considerable number of members have used this method to get themselves a cheap deal.

Check any of the numerous holiday websites (bargainholidays etc) either very early or very late and search for general Corfu holidays......no need to worry about resort or accommodation.

Once again, it depends greatly on the time of year you're travelling!

I shall keep my eyes peeled however I am looking to go more in season if indeed I go next year, working on it at the moment.  Dont think the £596 I got for 2 weeks Oct 10th to 24th this year was at all bad  I was looking quite late this year and I dis see packages for £175 but they were either to Ibiza or Bodrum in Turkey, the words no and thank you spring instantly to mind.

Cheers for the info.
