Just a short line to praise the remaining XL staff at Corfu, We came home yesterday and were obviousely worried about what would happen as we were on a flight only deal (Freedom flights) I have to say the boys and girls at the airport were fantastic, despite a long delay they were as helpful and cheerful as could be .What ever we think of XL as a company Hats of to the staff on the ground

Its the staff who have to suffer as well as passengers
My own flight with XL in July- which I reported on here, was dreadful- I said I would never fly with them again.
How right I was. Because clearly "I wont" fly with them again now

i feel sorry for the kosmar reps at the airport.
Not only will they have lost their jobs, but also part of their commission on tours they have sold as the t.o's dont pay the full amount of commission until the end of the season.
And if they are resident in corfu over the winter and are paid in the uk,not under the greek system, they wont get any social over the winter to keep them going either.
It seems to me that if i ran my business in that way,I wouldnt be able to sleep at night-its immoral to use people that way.

It is only very recently that ANY of the tour operators started paying insurance (social security) for locally employed staff. Quite a few still don't.
There are always two sides to any picture, aren't there? If the staff were paid "proper" salaries with all the benefits, the cost of our holidays would be even higher.
If you think about it, how many businesses could stay solvent when faced with over 40% increases in their essential costs (fuel in this case)?
I feel really sorry, obviously, for people whose longed-for holidays have been lost, and even more sorry for those whose jobs and annual income has disappeared - XL staff, holiday reps, accommodation owners, etc.
Susanna
