Lovley day spent at Agni, time to go so glugged down the last of my Mythos...& wasp. Little B****r stung my in the throat on the way down. Not nice. Hasily I took two Piriton tablets (always carry them) however within 1/2 an hour it was getting realy difficult to breath. The emergency doctor I saw was fantastic and after some big jabs things calmed down and I am still here on the planet, he did however say I was lucky...
My advice watch out for wasps or use a straw..

I had a similar experience whilst in Lakka a few years ago. Fortunately, I felt the thing in my mouth before I swallowed (and before it had a chance to sting).
Always pays to check your glass first. This is one reason why, if have a bottle, rather than draught, I only ever pour a small amount in the glass - it encourages me to check.

When we visit during wasp season, I also tend to use a straw, try not to eat or drink anything too sweet and use insect repellant wipes during the day.
The little blighters don't bother me too much, but I get a bit panicky when they "buzz" my ears or fly very near to my face.....

That's awful! We just got back and, although they didn't seem as bad as usual the first week and we were really surprised, they then arrived with a vengeance the last few days we were there. We kept a fly swat with us all the time and had to wave it around just to eat our meals!! Will take your advice and stick to a straw!!

Intresting Jeremy that you didn't look at your drink before taking a gulp - I take it you were very thirsty - or was it perhaps Mythos number somethingteen ? and your eyes had given up !!
I think the biggest danger here - is people drinking out of cans - wasps regularly enter the small aperture on the top - and then get agressive when they cant easily get out. I never allow my little un - to drink pop from a can for that very reason.
Beer drinkers - take note !!!

PS Rachel says that the main roof was tiled on the far side, sorry the pic doesn't show this, but if you look along the ridge at least you know the insulation is in!

Oh they are everywhere! I sat back helplessly while one stole - yes STOLE a piece of my bacon and flew off with it!
My other half (who is terrified of them) sat on one while we were out on a hire boat. It stung his bum! The way he was jumping about and shouting I thought someone was shooting at us.
You can't even get away from them in the open ocean!

Gosh that's a frightening story! Hope you are recovered now.
My dad who is allergic to wasp's got stung last year just as we sat down to enjoy our fabulous lunch in Kalami, within moments he couldn't breath and was swelling up fast, luckily we were able to inject him with his epi pen of adrenaline (which was the first time in ages he had it on him) and continue with our lunch and mythos .

My daughter got a bad reaction when she was stung on her arm in July. The doctor was great but I dread to think wahat would have happened if she had been stung in her throat.
Hope you are fully recovered.

one thing I do if I have a can of pop is to wedge a piece of card, beer mat or similar, under the folded back ring pull, which effectively blocks the opening!!! mind you, as I usually drink draft Mythos, can easily see the little devils if they pop in for a swift one!!!!!

I had one in my wine jug last week, poured it out with a refill! They are certainly very bad this year - I ordered mussels at Boukari one lunchtime and had 8 wasps buzzing around my lunch - too scared to pull my chair out in case I trapped one under my hand/armpit so just sat there desperately trying to get my husband to do something - he was busy on his mobile trying to text a friend (don't you just hate mobiles on holiday?) Anyway, swapped my mussels for his fried sardines so he had the problem then! Our waiter brought out a saucer with Greek coffee (dried) in it, then set a little alight, it burned like a joss stick and believe it or not it worked!
