Just wondering what, if any, music people like listening to on the beach. To start you off, here are a few,

Good Vibrations - the Beach Boys,
Beach Baby - First Class,
Tbe Boys of Summer - Don Henley,
Fantastic Day - Haircut 100,
Club Tropicana - Wham, (not sure about this one)

This is just off the top of my head and it shows my age, but lets have some of yours, The Theme from Greece, maybe?

Well I love Zorbas Dance in Corfu (the dance version is fab too! lol), but on the beach I'll be listening to Gwen Stafani, Katie Melua, Keane, Snow Patrol, Christina Aguliera etc etc.  I love listening to music on the beach, coz I lie there sunbathing singing away to myself.  I just pity the people next to me on the beach! lol

When in Corfu Greek music makes me sooo happy!

Long hot Summer - The Style Council,
Cruel Summer - Bananarama,
Summertime Blues - Eddie Cochrane,
Three Little Birds - Bob Marley,

my favorite artist is actually Leonard Cohen but he is not really big on summer music.

I do have tons of Beach Boys stuff and do think that Good Vibrations is the best summer song.

Josepipe - I also have the Turkish verson of Kiss Kiss by Tarkan!

It is far better than the Holly Valance version.  When I was in Turkey in 2000 Kiss Kiss was all the rage and everytime it came on at our pool bar everyone got up on top of the bar and did the dance, it was fab!

Before I went home I bought the Tarkan album (he's a big heart throb pop star in Turkey).   Don't like the song anymore coz Holly Valance ruined it!

lol!

great to hear you're a Leonard Cohen fan - most people i know just groan when i tell them i love him too.

Famous Blue Raincoat stops me dead in my tracks if i ever hear it  - it's so haunting! but you're right - not most people's idea of summer tracks.

Janey,

Famous Blue Raincoat is my most favorite song ever.
Have you heard Hallelujah sung by Jeff Buckley? it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, I was listening to this on headphones last year on Skiathos and it reminds me of then, (headphones help drown out noise of yakking child)

I have most of Tarkans stuff (including a few promos). I took a liking for his stuff when I had a Turkish boyfriend a few years ago (Yes, I knew exactly what I was getting myself into, and was extremely good at playing him at his own "game" ). Fond summer memories...........

Sikidim by Tarkan would definitely be one of my summer songs, along with Scorpions Wind of Change, Ace of Bass, Life is a Flower and anything by Wilson Phillips or Roxette!!

hi nic,

no, i haven't heard Jeff Buckley do 'Halleluja' but i intend to have a listen to it. i did hear another cover of it recently on the radio - Eva Cassidy or someone sounding like her and that was amazing but then all his songs are great originals or covered well by those that appreciate his lyrics. but back to summer - it's got to be Don Henley and Boys of Summer!!!

I did a tape now a CD called 'Long Hot Summer' with all laid back summer feel songs.  Long Hot Summer - Style Council, Autumn Stone - Small Faces, Perfect - Lightening Seeds, Homeward Bound - Simon and Garfunkel etc....

Or

The CD that really takes me back to Corfu when I listen to it is 'Whose side are you on' Matt Bianco  strange choice but the first year I went a friend of mine brought this with him and it was played to death...

I too love Leonard Cohen, apparently he's quite cheerful in real life.

Check out Rufus Wainwright's version of Hallelujah. It was in the last Shrek film.

Another Leonard Cohen fan here by the way . My favourite is The Partisan, makes my hair stand on end too. And there is a connection too by the way. Leonard loves Greece and has spent a lot of time on Crete I think.

Although more of a blues man myself, I have to admit to recently (last year) becoming a Jimmy Buffet fan. His version of "Everybody's talking" is fantastic. Practically all his songs are about holiday, travel sailing situations and they are excellent.

Those of you out on holiday this summer, if you see posters for live music featuring the Strangeloves or Blueshine, don't miss it the Strangeloves are one of the best bands in Corfu right now, and Blueshine is my band. We play mostly covers lively stuff like "Play that funky music" and "Why did you do it" etc.

Sorry for the plug...

Look forward to seeing you all in the summer...

It is Hydra that Leonard hangs out, on the back cover of Songs From A Room is a photo of one of the rooms he lived in there in the 60's, I think he still owns a house there.
And Janey, maybe it was k.d. Lang that you heard singing Hallelujah, she does that and Bird on a Wire on her latest album of covers, Hymns of the 49th Parallel.
Anyone out there like Martin Stephenson & the Daintees?
Roll on Summertime is on my last summer compilation cd.

Walking on Sunshine, Summer (the first time), Holding out for the summer,...Here comes the summer.

My favourite holiday songs depend on where I am at the time!  When Im in Corfu, I dont know what my favourite song is called but it goes like this lol.  Answers on a postcard please:

LAA  LAAA

la la la la la la

LAA LAA

la la la la la la

What do you mean youve never heard of it?  You must have!

My favourite holidays songs at the moment are most Irish songs - Ive just returned from Los Cristianos in Tenerife (going back in three weeks lol) and the best bar Ive ever been in is there - its called the Irish Times if any of you are going to be in that vicinity - highly recommended.

Favourite holiday songs of all times? Most of my favourites arent necessarily "holiday" songs - just songs that were played in the bars, karaokes, etc, where we happened to be at the time!

eg:  Living on a Prayer (Bon Jovi) heard on a local mans radio when we were in Minorca

Something happened on the way to heaven  (phil collins) played almost consistently on our car stereo when we were driving to France a few years ago

Love will keep us alive (the eagles) played at my sisters wedding at St Andrews a couple of years ago (big aaahhh)

Im going to stop now cos I could go on all night and I dont want you lot to die of boredom lol

xx

It could also be Seko Horepsi Sitaki, the La La La song that is. I can remember it being sung all over the place in particular on Captain Spiros boat trips.

It starts off with the La la la etc etc, then goes Se Ko Horepsi Sitaki (I wish this site had a tune facility)(Nathan theres one for you).

Oh well, its a catchy tune anyway, and always gets everyone going.

On our first visit to Corfu Bob Marley's Legend album was played almost every night in our local taverna so anything of his always brings back mamories.

p.s. k. d. lang's version of Hallelujah takes some beating!

If you leave the video at home, I wont tell Tony, .

The definitive version of Hallelujah, in my humble opinion is the Jeff Buckley version, even though Len wrote it, it is like he is singing it from his grave, which is where he is now of course.

Another Leonard Cohen fan here--Famous Blue Raincoat, the Partisan, Ain't No Cure for Love...too many favourites to name. I like Joni Mitchell too, though her music's not generally "holiday" stuff either. But her "Carey" takes me back to my first trips to Greece, as does an Italian song "Ti Amo." It always seemed to be playing when we went dancing in a little bar across from Pontikonissi quite some years ago. That's nice to remember on a cold winter morning...

On the other hand, when our family starts off on road trips here in Canada, we like to play Bruce Springsteen or the Guess Who.

There's a band I love called MLTR (Michael learns to Rock) from Denmark. Has anyone else heard of them?

They did release one of their most famous tracks as a single over here a couple of years ago. It was called "Someday" but unfortunately it didn't succeed in breaking them into the UK market.

A very strong Scandinavian influence there, Josepipe!

Some good summery tunes too though, although 'Boys of Summer' was Don Henley, Bryan Adams did 'Summer of 69' one of my favourite tunes of all time
