Here we go again...

Fuel Surcharge

Also talking to someone this morning, that oil tankers had been waiting off UK shores for the oil price to rise

It's going to get a lot worse I can imagine.

Andy.

The tankers anchor off our town of Lowestoft which suffolk isn't happy about in case of spillages, this is more for the reason that the larger tankers are to big to get into the destinations so " Oil transfers" take place onto smaller tankers. The damage which could be caused to our coastline is not worth the revenue recieved for this operation.

Considering all the problems in the oil rich Middle Eastern countries, it's no surprise that oil prices will rise.

Highest price I've seen for diesel in Cornwall today was (at) 1.409. There are several tankers anchored in Torbay, South Devon waiting for the price to go up.

My balance is due by 30 March. I wonder if I should pay it earlier just in case?

I bought diesel on Monday in Igoumenitsa for 1.47 euros per litre. Noticed petrol was 1.64 but higher on Corfu.

Our heating oil has gone up by 5 cents a litre to 85c this month.

Just heared on the news the surcharge is on new bookings only, anyone already booked won't have to pay extra. Let's hope they stick to this rule.

Tankers off Torbay Devon? Wow good sight from Cornwall. Higher than 164 E. Thanks baywatcher, only sensible reply to my question.

I think that most airlines will start charging extra now but only for new bookings.

Went into Corfu town yesterday afternoon cheapest petrol 1.69euros on Lefkimmi Road most expensive was BP near airport 1.74euros.

The good thing about living on a small island is you don't use much fuel to get around.

Not what the BBC news item implies though:

Thomas Cook's new surcharge will apply to all bookings that include a Thomas Cook flight made from Tuesday onwards.

The company blames a 40% increase in the cost of fuel for the move.

The surcharge applies to both flight-only or package holidays, and applies whether the trip is booked through a travel agency or directly with Thomas Cook itself.

Surcharges will apply to all charter brands including Thomas Cook, Airtours, Sunset, Manos, Club 18-30 and Neilson.

A spokesman for the company, Ian Ailles, said: "We've worked hard to keep the impact of the rising fuel costs on our holidaymakers to a minimum but the fuel levy is an unavoidable result of the rising price of oil."

However being the cynic I am, if you pay the additional £15/£40 surcharge on a new booking and the price of oil goes down again, will they give you a refund...

I think we all know the answer to that one, don't we.
