Hi all, I am new to this forum but hoping someone can help. Me my other half and 9 month old son are going to Corfu in November for 3 weeks to visit family and christening little one.
So far I have looked into flights from Manchester to Athens with easyjet which come to £250 including luggage. Then getting a flight from Athens to Corfu with Olympic which will cost £244. Does this sound reasonable?
I was looking at ferries from Italy to Corfu but cant seem to find any that are travelling in November?
If anyone else has any suggestions or advice please let me know so we can look at all possibilities.
Thanks, Emma x

Hi Emma,
All ferry routes in Greece are disrupted at this time. Something to do with licences and need for new ones. This could take time but they may well be back and running by November. See more info re this under thread 'Hydrofoils'.
It is for this reason all websites show no bookings at present as they don't know when they will get their licence.

Thanks for replying...I can't seem to find that other thread. Do you know why they haven't got the licences? My other half is Greek and said they always have ferries during winter?
I don't suppose you know any other options than flying to Athens and then Corfu?

Hi ema, I dont think you will find much cheaper flights from Athens to Corfu than you have with Olympic, they are quite reasonable.
Have a great time while you are there.

There will definitely be ferries - indeed despite the domestic ferry disruption I have seen several Italy/Greece ferries sailing past yesterday and today.
I would book a cheap flight to Venice or Ancona and then get the boat once you have the ferry date. If timetables are not published then email or call Minoan or Anek lines.
I am sure it will work out a lot cheaper
Coming out you could always pick up a Ryan Air from Stansted - last time I looked at the direct flight on 7th November which I think is the last one, not sure, it was 14.99 pounds (without baggage but including taxes I think)

Hi Ema have you tried looking for flights with Agean from Athens to Corfu. I found some around Xmas time from Gatwick to Athens with easyjet and then Athens to Corfu with Agean total cost about £350 each with a 2 hours layover on both trips.

Thankyou all for replying, janmanessi do you know how far the airports in Italy are from the ferry ports and will they be easy to travel to? When we moved from Corfu to England we drove and caught a ferry to Brindisi so I am a bit clueless when it comes to the airports there.

Just been looking at the Ryan Air website and there appear to be flights on 17th and 24th November, plus some earlier in the month too- so check it out! I know Stansted is a beast of an airport to get to unless you live in the east but price is brilliant and it is direct!

I know! I saw that, in fact, I think I am going to put that on a separate thread so that people can see it. I have only just heard about it, it's a start at least!

Worked out that on today's price the baby's ticket would be the most expensive of the three of you but all three of you can go to Corfu and back for about 100 pounds- get booking!

As regards ferries, Minoan advertise prices 12 months at a time due to cost increases. You can book an open ticket for after Oct 2011 but it is subject to a surcharge if fuel prices rocket etc. I have sailed Venice to Corfu and VV in the winter months many times and sailing times have always been the same as the ones posted on the site for the current year.

Ryanair show outward 7/11 and return 28/11 for 2 adults and 1 infant and 40kg checked baggage for £220.00 from Stansted. Baggage is £60 per 20kg so could save by cutting back one bag and taking carry on.

I saw sarah's message re Ryanair on facebook last week and as we need to go to England for a celebration in November - I booked straight away - so thanks for the info Sarah!!!
Word of warning however - you look at the prices and think - Wow!! - but as you get further along the booking process - you see the prices gradually rising and rising...
Having said that - it was still a lot cheaper than doing Aegean and easy jet.
If you count on paying roughly double the advertised price per person per leg - you might have a true cost.
I must say I was shocked by the Aegean prices for the same dates going to and from Athens. Prices on the website were very cheap - but the taxes were crazy. Total cost for two of us return to Athens came out at 250 euros.
I know that Stanstead is a difficult place to get to and from - but you never know, if we use this flight more, they might consider extending the flight dates and add another airport or two!
