I'm looking for an organic store (healthy vegetarian food shop) in Corfu.
Few years ago my friend has found an organic shop near Kerkyra. I think it was at the south side of the town, beside a Dimitros. There was a wooden sign at the road.
That is what I know about it.
Do you have any information about it? Or any shop like this...
Thanks

There is a good veg stall beside Dimitra- opposite the radio station, however it is not organic.
To be sure of organic produce contact Calliope Yannouka who does organic veg boxes - don't know her number, Someone else may be able to help, or probably Daphne at Lucciola will know. Daphne may know of other sources also

Could you be more specific, I don't know where the radio station is...
The vegetarian is important to me, not the organic. You know: vegan sweeties, vegan sparkling cola, soya-seitan foods, soya yoghurts, etc. Thats what I am looking for.

Have never found much Vegan stuff, but then I have not been looking!
The radio station is just south of the airport- cannot miss it as it has two huge masts sticking up, Dimitra supermarket is opposite but I doubt if their Vegan selection is any better than any of the others- AB for example. The stall next door is purely vegetables and fruit so will not be of special interest to you I think

I spotted some Tofu whilst looking around Vassilipolous (AB) on the road from the airport on left hand side past the port, but Quorn is available sometimes from the English shop south of the airport and I suspect from the UK shop near Roda in the north. (if you search the forum you will find seperate threads on these).
I am going to be brutally honest - you will be hard pushed to find any of the specialist products. So bring out the basics with you, it will be worth the extra baggage allowance and save you hours of wasted shopping time on your holiday.

The shop selling a range of vegan products has closed, I am not aware of anywhere else selling a range of vegan alternatives. The British Corner shop does sell some Quorn products - not sure how acceptable these are as many contain eggs and they are very expensive here. We have vegan friends who visit us annually - eating out is a challenge! The best I can say is that most supermarkets do sell soya milk - usually to be found with the long life milk - Sconto supermarkets do sell a vegetable cream product in the chill cabinet with the fresh milk products. The margarine here tends to be acceptable to vegans - but I always check the label. Our friends usually bring out their own cheese. There is a pastry shop in Corfu town that sells vegan sweet treats - pastries, cakes and biscuits. They are lovely - sold by the weight so can be expensive if you get carried away - we usually buy a kilo box and it lasts the duration of our friends' stay - the shop owner packs them in. Its in the new town area, in a small side street (chemist on the corner opposite the eurobank near to the Hondos Centre) next door to a shoe shop. There is usually a board outside advertising their vegan sweets.

Hi adept,
again - not sure of current status - but last year there was an organic/health food shop in Corfu town. It had an advertising sandwich board on the street a little further up than Marks and Spencers going towards the old town pointing to an alley way on the left. I'm afraid that I haven't been in that area this summer as yet - so I can't say if its still there or not - maybe this will jog someone else's memory!
Maybe if you said what it is specifically that you are looking for - we could help a little more.
I know that in our local Markato - they do a shelf of organic goods which are mostly German in origin - but its not very extensive.
If its fruit and veg - then, as previous posters have said, there are good organic growers here, but you have to contact them direct.
If its dry goods, then I think most of the large supermarkets will have a small stock of goods available.
I suspect it will be the case that you will have to shop around. I know several shops in Corfu town that I can go to for specialist coffee, rice, pasta etc that are organic - but they are mixed in with many other types of the same goods!
Its all part of the fun of using small shops - if you dive into a few and ask - you'll be surprised at what is available. I even found liquorice root at the old coffee shop directly opposite M&S.
Hope you get what you need and happy shopping!

The road that leads from the Nautilus Cafe Port area and Atlantis Hotel to a very good organic health food shop. Its on the right hand side as you head up to San Rocco Square. (The road is one way coming down)

The shop is on the left hand side as you come down from San Rocco going to the port. It is just before you would turn right to go to IKA. The block it faces (on the opposite side of the road) fronts the green bus station, with the fortress walls behind

J&L, I'm glad to hear that Soya milk is readily available on the island. What are the brand names I should be looking for?
I can endorse your comments about the pastry shop-absolutely wonderful. The owner will without hesitation go through the ingredients of everything and anything on sale and is so helpful.

The brand leader is Alpro (this is the one my friends prefer) although often you can only get this in the chocolate form - strange but true so not so good in a cup of tea. Sometimes in the chiller cabinet - often on the shelf with the uht long life milk. Sorry can't remember the other names - its something begining with F and comes in a green carton - not a fave with vegan friends and its a funny colour and seems to go off quickly, but I have found it in tourist mini markets - on the A&B store shelf there was another brand whose name I had not come across previously in a blue carton and that was much liked by the friends but sorry to be so vague. Noticed in A&B the other day that they now do a soya cream - this is in the chiller cabinet next to the dairy uht cream as well as what they call a vegetable cream. Have not tried out either on friends so can't report on it.

Found the name of the preferred soya milk is is Valsoia soyadrink - it is Italian. Kept better once opened - its on the long life shelf in A&B, but have seen it also in other supermarkets.

We found the organic shop at the Theothoki street. They have almost everything what a normal people need.
We found vegan cheese in the Dimitra.
We were at Rose's bakery. Be careful, because every cookies are sold in kilogram. So we bought some sweeties for 41euros. They pour sweet syrup on the sweeties, and it is heavy... but it was tasteful after all. But the price is put some bitterness in it... I have never spend such money for sweeties. But is was totally my fault.
