Myself and friend are going to be hiking the Corfu trail this summer (137 miles running from Kavos to Agios Spiridon taking in other highlights in a bunch of wild curves)

We had planned on camping the whole way but have found out about the sheer impossibility of this so are now seeking the most inexpensive accommodation available. Our guidebooks and the Net keep on telling us that many Corfiots hire out backrooms or guest rooms and this is the cheapest way to travel. A website we found listed a selection of rooms in the region of Pelekas which is fine for one night but this, however, is as far as internet research has been able to take us

Does anyone know how we might locate and contact people who hire rooms or know of anywhere we could contact to get further information?

Incidentally the rough night by night breakdown on the trail is...
Kavos - Lefkimmi - Agios Georgios - Paramonas - Benitses - Pelakas - Paleokastritsa - Agros - Spartillas - Kaminaki - Agios Spiridon

Hi,
There is a campsite in Paleo [www.paleokastritsaholidays.com] which is on the Corfu Trail. Phone no: (+30) 26630 41101/41204. Have passed this many times in car on the way up to Lakones village. Hope this helps abit and that you find more places to stay...

In Kavos there are signs for rooms at 10euros a night all over the resort so you should find rooms

Regarding the Corfu Trail section between Paleokastritsa and Agros, I am not aware of any 'cheap' room accommodation in Agios Georgios north which is a usual night halt on this section.
If you are going in August you might have problems anyway finding single night accommodation as most self-catering establishments get booked up quite well that month.
You can try emailing Stefanos at
http://www.nwcorfurooms.com

As an option I know that Theo's Hotel in the resort does take Corfu Trail walkers for single nights. The charges in August are 45euros per double room but that includes breakfasts (Continental) for 2 persons, and use of pool, so about 23 euros per person.

Just noticed last evening, on the road between Karousades and Sidari, two signs for "Back Packers" accomodation.

I saw the backpackers Hotel well signposted as well yesterday just next to the TechnoMarket on the road outside Sidari heading towards Karoussades.

That would be a better option I think than the one I was thinking of, which is in the village of Benitses, so further off the trail

Theo's at Agios Georgios is now booked. Paleokastritsa is taken care of. Kostas will definitely be getting a call as soon as I get within distance of a landline.

We've still got quite a way to go but really have to say thank you and any further help is massively welcome :)

I remember eating at The River taverna in Lefkimi (featured on Rick Stein's programme) and I think the lady's name is Loula and she has accommodation at the back of the taverna. Sorry but no other info.

You guys are suberb. Quizzing the experts is definitely the way to go in our situation. I've pretty much taken everything you suggest. Theo's hotel and Paleokastritsa Camping as before

Kostas taverna in Stavros was difficult since someone who apparently didn't speak English picked up when I called first. Perhaps a misdial. I texted later and that worked out fine. Tip for the 21st century backpacker :)

For the River Taverna (full name The River to Potomi) I surfed for ages but then tracked it down in a guide book. Phone no 2662022958

Pelekas we are staying at the rooms attached to a taverna called Agnes Restaurant - dinner, room, breakfast for 25 a head which isn't to be sniffed at. www.agnespelekas.com

Kavos is something cheap and conceivably much more cheerful than we are aiming for but that is just life

We're still missing on a few though.

Paramonas/Ag. Matheus
Agros
Spartillas
Kaminaki/Nissaki
Ag. Spiridon

Any ideas abundantly appreciated :)

Hi Tridd. 'To Potomi' means 'the river' in Greek so they are just putting the name in both languages.

Fooled the Corfu travel author too
Not an encouraging sign for a guide dependent tourist.

Hi there. I hope you get to see this:
My name is Ben I'm from Israel and walking the Corfu trail right now (42 degrees today - if anyone said anything about the heat...). I started from Kavos and now I'm at Benitses cause I wanted to see the shell museume. Will conect back to the trail tommorow. All this just for you to trust what I say - I am sleeping each and every night in my tent, on the shore, on the mountain, just in the middle of the trail... no camping site was needed. If you are looking for the benefits of showers ect, thats something else. I bathed 4 times in the sea and two in sweet water in the shore. Nobody says anything and thats the best way to go in my opinion...
By the way, Kostas place in Stravos is indeed very nice (at least Kostas himself, I talked with him for half an hour)
Good luck, enjoy your walk, and please know - the marking is very bad. You need a very good map or guidebook (niether of them I could find...)
For any other questions: bensound(at)walla.co.il
Cheers.

Hi again tridd, if you haven't already,t ake a look at:
[www.paramonas-hotel.com]. Depending on when you visit, a twin room sells at between 45 - 65 euros per room, per night. You can book on line, by phone or e-mail.

Thanks there. Having heard good things all around we are now booked in at the Paramonas. Its just the end of the trail we are having issues with now. Kaminaki/Nissaki oughtn't be an issue (though any suggestions are welcome) its inland that gets us

Regarding maps we've ordered what we hope is quite a good one for hiking. http://www.stanfords.co.uk/Activities-and-Interests/Maps--Atlases/Corfu_9783707909562.htm

It has the trail marked on specifically which is nice.

Just noticed this thread and cant believe a few of you know Kostas in Stavros, I was at the Manchester restaurant that he worked at years ago last night and the owner told me he now lives in Stavros. In Agios Gordios in August so hopefully I can meet him then. Would I be best going by taxi or bus to town then to Stavros? If anyone sees him tell him Steve from Stockport sends his regards.

Hi Steve,

I live opposite Kostas and he is the same man who worked in Manchester, he's a fantastic neighbour and he would certainly welcome you. The quickest way to get to us is by taxi from the rank next to GeeBees Supermarketin Agios Gordios if there is no taxi George at the supermarket will get you one. Our bus service does not match up with the Agios Gordios ones so if you decide to go by bus you will have a long wait at the bus station. We live in the DAFNATA part of Stavros which is nearly at the top of the mountain so make sure you tell the taxi that.

I will pop over now and give him your regards.

Denise

Hi tridd,

Just back from Corfu and picked up your thread.

Spartylas - the Asteras Bar is the 1st one you pass on the trail as you enter. They have one room above with a double bed. Stayed in it myself when walked trail last year. Sorry no contact details as booked through Aperghi Travel (based in Corfu).

Have to thank you all so much helping us get accommodation on the trail

We are now in Agios Georgios south. Hi from the internet cafe on the main street.

One quick question. Tomorrow night we will be staying with Kostas in Stavros. I kind of failed to get the name of the taverna and its location. Can anyone fill me in?

We are just heading off to Paramonas now so until later many thanks again...

Hi,
There is a telephone number for Kostas at Stavros on page one of this topic posted by baywatcher. If you manage to get lost maybe you could give him a call.

This was a simple one in the end. We were wandering along through a Corfiot summer in hiking packs like a couple of crazies when someone behind us asked 'Are you Tom?' I am and he was Kostas. Easy

A lovely stay and many thanks to Denise (baywatcher) and Richard for their company that evening and recommendation.
