i see the magnet bar has reopened, is it still called magnet or is it something else? and is it still a music bar?the times we went there it always seemed very quite and not many people in although the owner was always very good company.

The magnet bar is just before you go to the beach near the shops on the corner.

it looked as if they were building a sun terrace area there when we were walking past in May

As long as they serve cocktails!

Its been re-amed 'Simple' - there was nobody in there when we went and had a look - shame because it looked nice

Just got back from San Stef ,stayed at Olga, went to Simple Bar ,ex Magnet ,

Smart, clean & tidy   lovely garden at back, live music but no customers

Most places were nowhere near full. Has San Stef been over developed?

Can they all survive ?  Time will tell

The Magnet bar is now called simple and is owned and run by a good friend who ran the bar at Elpitha - Leo an absolute gem - the bar is sensational and needs all our support he has done a great job and is ha. So everyone in San STef go there for a drinkhe is happy with things for his first season - so good luck to him and his team

Richard_Karen thankfully I don't think it is the fact that San Stefanos is overdeveloped, It's just that the secret hasn't escaped yet!!!!!

We were worried when we first arrived in 2001 as to how quiet it was, but it means that all of the local people get to know you personally and that adds to the enjoyment.

We have booked in the Olga for next August, did you enjoy your stay?

Sorry Admin team I appeared to have taken this topic off thread!!

Tony

Hi Tony

We have been going to San Stef since 1999. Always enjoyed every minute.

There are pavements to walk on now!!  the bakery has been replaced with a large Tex-Mex restaurant. we prefer the smaller tavernas.

We enjoyed our stay at the Olga, will return .  Only one downside: I think the floor was softer than my matress   It helped putting the blankets under my sheet !!

If it goes like Sidari,I'm cancelling next year straight away!!

Seriously though does anyone know the history of the development of San Stef ie approx dates of when bars, hotels etc were built because I have a postcard of the Romanza and i cannot believe that there is no development to be seen. How old must this postcard be and when was the Romanza built?

Sorry for all the questions but I am interested in how San Stef started as the resort of my dreams!!

When I went to san stef in 1983 there was not much beyond Nafiska, no big shops there was a small gift shop and if i remember rightly a little supermarket. Golden Bech Hotel was run by stefanos at the condor and his brother and that was the place we all used to hang out, and all the greeks used to hang out there as well including sometimes the miserable man at the Athina Beach Bar! We used to also go to Nafsika. By about 1988 things started to develop a lot more and more tavernas and places to stay started to appear. The Yellow hotel Sunny Bay? that was just a typical half built greek building. I have somewhere a picture overlooking the bay back then i will have to try and download load for you to see!
