Elaine, we went to Anti Paxos first time on our own steam, it did feel like an effort though.
Suzie123 I'm going to Corfu this year and am thinking about car hire and so on but I have a fair idea that I won't bother once I'm there.
Christineruse it may just be a case of checking out the different operators to see their route, maybe you could use the normal ferry or hydrofoil and stay a night - or not, if the times are right you could get a full day there? I've seen pleasure boats pull in at Lakka whilst I've been there but most of the trips I've seen online only mention Gaios & Anti Paxos, better still just book a week in Paxos! The Albania trip is 40 euro pp. This includes transfer to/from Paleo to port, & boat ticket.
If you want to go on the "optional trip" to Bitrint it's another 19 euro pp which is paid on the ferry. You also have to pay 10 euro port tax pp on the ferry too. (these are all S12 prices). And you won't be able to get these prices cheaper anywhere as they are paid on the boat, and nothing to do with the excursion seller. To be honest if you do find it cheaper than 40 euro it won't be that much cheaper and there are NO tourist office in Paleo that sell excursions apart from the local boat trips around Paleo. You may be able to book it from another hotel which offer excursions as a side line. If you have the opportunity to book it through Thomson I'd book it through them. If you have any problems ie coach doesn't pick you up etc they will always assist you. View Topic: Excursions |

Hi Terry,
Never saw a bus on the ferry over to Meganissi. We stayed at "Paradise Beach Apartments" in Katomeri. The Ferry we caught 5pm on a Sunday stopped at Spatochori only, then returned to Nidri (this was back in 2011 could of changed again.) However some for example, the early afternoon ferry stops at Vathy and Spatochori before returning to Nidri. As far as I know its just a circular ferry. Lefkas (Nidri port) to Meganissi (Spatochori, and Vathy). I don't think the "Paradise Apartments are open any longer. In Vathy are the Rose Garden Apartments. Can't think of any others. Meganissi Hotel is up in the village of Katomeri..Nice place... Meganissi is a very quiet Island not much going on at all. We loved it. If you need any more info PM me. Hiya Bob,
Thanks for coming back to me. I hadn't realised that the bus went on the ferry too! I'll need a closer look at where that ferry might go.

Hiya Josefina,
Thanks for the information. Where did you get off the ferry? Can you recommend any accomodation or tavernas that we could use whilst we are there?
best wishes

I would imagine the bus might go the whole way from Lefkas Town to Meganisi (and beyond?) we stayed in Spartahori the first ferry stop from Nidri, and the bus was on the ferry and drove off there to Vathi. The ferry went on to Vathi from Spartahori. I don't know if Vathi was the end of the line, I have a feeling it went on somewhere else before returning to Nidri.
As we were sailing can't say about accommodation. Bob View Topic: Ferries And Places To Stay |

I don't think there are any these days. You could hire a sea taxi or take the ferry to Igoumenitsa and overnight in Parga, but as both these options would be quite expensive, you would probably have to have a very special reason for wanting to visit Parga!

Hi,
The ferry to Meganissi from Lefkas leaves from Nidri...think there is one every couple of hours. Didn't stay on Lefkas any longer than the time waiting for the ferry...but what we did see we liked. JoseFina View Topic: Ferries And Places To Stay |

On our September jaunt, we are travelling down to Lefkada from Igoumenitsa by bus. We want to get from Lefkada to Meganisi so could anyone tell me where the ferry goes from and if there are any reasonable places to stay around there? What "must sees" are there on Lefkada and what is the public transport like?
We are hoping to get to Kefalonia by ferry and think that there is one from Vasiliki. Does the ferry go direct to Kefalonia or would we have to travel via Ithaki?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yes Malcy We first towed it in 2007 as a 'once in a lifetime; idea,,,, and it spoilt us so much we have done it ever since. We use the channel tunnel and the Ancona to Igoumenitsa ferry. For the first 2 years went via Switzerland but found their obsession with speed limits and a hatred of trailers ( ) a bit wearing and then for the next 4 via the Mont Blanc >>> Dartford/Dijon/Mont Blanc/Reggio Emilia/Ancona. This year we plan to try the Frejus tunnel for a change of scenery Its quite a load > me, the missus, dive compressor, dive kit for 3 and 1600kg of trailer. We went to Albania about 3 years ago, we were staying in Kalami and booked with Sunshine Travel (check out their web site). We were driven to the port at Corfu, had a lovely ferry ride to Saranda, were taken to a hotel for a drink, a lovely coach ride to Butrint, which we enjoyed, returned to Saranda for a lgood late lunch at the hotel, we then had about an hour to spare, we had a good look around Saranda, yes we saw a few beggars on the sea front, we then went back to the hotel to catch the coach back to the ferry. We have been to Corfu lots of times and never really wanted to go on the trip, but we were with some friends who wanted to go, so we went as well, I'm glad we did, Saranda did not seem quite so "gray" as it looks. The Albanians have had things really bad in the past. If I went again I would go on an organised trip, the tour guide was very helpful and told us a lot about the country.

Are you independant and transferring to KS by taxi? If so you might still make it. I have seen ferry not leaving till after 6pm on a Wednesday. The taverna mentioned is The Black Sea, it changed hands a couple of years ago. My favs last year were Minori, at other end of harbour and Babis in centre but they all good, lunch time snack souvlaki and pita bread and real chips at Valentis under tree at harbour, they also do great pork chops, but really you will get great food in all of them. I was going to mention another two but I would keep going and prob recommend them all. I would not recommend trying to go to Rhodes for the day, remember the local ferries only go to KS on Rhodes. Last year the cat. did a day trip to Tilos if you were wanting a day trip and to see another island, I am sure it also went to Kalymnos, enjoy Halki, you will go back home and book for 2014.

FB Eleni and Agia Irini offers car plus driver 45 Euros return Company running Ano Xora and other ferries 50 Euros return for car plus driver Additionally there is another company whose office was closed when I visited but I am told that you can become a member, after which you can travel for 10 Euros each way, and your car is another 10 Euros. Of course you have to use the same company for both legs of the journey to get the deals but they are pretty good! These offers can also be obtained from the ferry line offices in Igoumenitsa for those arriving from abroad, and all returns can be open. View Topic: Current Local Ferry Offers |

Thanks for the info about the new ferry. It looks like it leaves at 15:00 on the day we are going, so I think we'll book on that one as our other option is a journey to Gatwick at horrendous o'clock. I'm booking for a Tuesday, so fingers crossed we'll be OK.

If it's not a Monday then yes you should be OK in September. We were in and out of the airport in record time on Thursday. Have you looked at the new ferry timetable for Despina, leaves at 3.00 most days. The most up to date times I have found are on Off Season Paxos website.

No need to be brave, have several friends who have done this and had a wonderful time- only problem is that there are so many marvellous places to see en route it is tempting to get sidetracked!
Personally if using Italy and unable to leave from Venice (worth the extra hours at sea for the experience of sailing past the Grand Canal) I like Brindisi. Puglia has some great places to see if you have time, roads are good. After all it is a ferry you are going on, not a cruise ship, so for me the quickest and cheapest has also to be the best!
Yes I agree about the limitations of the smaller ferrys Anek are useing now, however, after our experiance last year with Minoan changing the Europa Palace for the infamous Zeus Palace, with no conSideration of recompence for the full price we had paid to Minoan. The list of complaints is endless, but just to say that we were forcibly ordered out of our cabin 4 hours before arrival in Ancona, and all the public toilets were locked as they had been cleaned.
If Minoan were the only ferry route available I would choose the long drive down Italy, or the more interesting possibility of Croatia---through Albania. Many of the trucks are using this route now so why not the cars. I quite fancy it. Just got to get a bit braver.

Now, you know I want to go via Croatia/Albania either in the "B" or on the bike
You need to get that Sptifire finished . I just need to get the trip organised before Lynn has a chance to book the cheap flights with Easyjet!!(Will be in Stephanos 9th/10th May, tied up to the Kapereli jetty)

We travelled on the Coraggio in January. While I agree with all Bob says, my overall impression was that, although a shinier newer ship doesn't disguise the reduced facilities. We usually love the ferry but found the cabin extremely claustrophobic, the public areas crowded, (more like the Corfu/Igou ferries) There is a vast amount of open deck area but not passenger friendly. We're back on Minoan this year.

First the good points. Very nice and clean all freshly painted, no signs of rust or age, public areas nicely presented, good food selection on the self service restaurant, there is no waiter service restaurant, the bar area is pleasant with plenty of power points for laptops etc; wi-fi available most places, very quiet engines, aircondition to the cabins actually worked for a change, cabin although smaller than other ferrys we have travelled on was nice and clean with all you need for a short stay, plenty of cupboard space, although would be cramped with 4 people using it. Shower and loo all spotless and all worked OK. All the staff we met were helpful and keen to please. The ferry left Venice on time and arrived at Igoumenitsa on time, nice smooth crossing in pleasant weather conditions all the way. The not so good points. There are no lifts from the garage decks to the accomodation areas with loads of staircases to negotiate, I asked what facilitys there were for the disabled and was shown a wheel chair Bob

You will have to drive to the "domestic" ferry port. After you get off the main ferry, take a right and head towards the main gates - when I did this in February I actually had to take a road to the right of the gates to exit the port. Immediately on leaving take the slip road down to the right - in essence, you are trying to get to the local port which, as you look at it from the "sea" side is to the left of the port you have arrived at, so at the bottom of the slip road you have to work your way over to the left and back towards the sea (sounds a bit confusing I'm afraid!).
Once back on the seafront road, you head away from the port you just docked at, and then look for the sign for the local port - from memory it includes mention of Corfu/Kerkyra. Once inside, swing sharp right and you will see a series of ticket office - these include those for both Lefkimi (in the south of Corfu) and Corfu Town itself. The offices will normally have details of the next ferry to the island - there is also an overhead screen that shows all the forthcoming departures. View Topic: Igoumenitsa Ferry |

We have sailed on a number of occasions direct from My question is this to people with experience: When we get
of the boat at Igoumenitsa what is the
procedure of buying a ticket and getting onto a ferry to Do we just drive off the Minoan boat, park up at the ferry terminal and find a booking agent who will sell you a ticket on the next available boat? Are the booking agents in the ferry terminal itself or do we drive out of the terminal and find one near to the terminal? I know that once you have done it once, it is probably straight forward, but my fear is that knowing the Greeks, if in doubt, they’ll make it complicated. Mike View Topic: Igoumenitsa Ferry |

Great news about the new boat between Paxos and Corfu. Especially the morning ferries from Paxos to Corfu, which are very welcome.
The only issue is that the destinations vary between Corfu town and Lefkimi depending on the season and time of day. For example we want to get back to Corfu airport on Saturday 7th September so the morning ferry at 8am (in the September timetable) is a very welcome alternative to the Flying Dolphin at 17.30, requiring an overnight stay. However it arrives Lefkimi at 8.45am and so we have to get to the airport as quickly and cheaply as we can. Can anyone advise as to the approximate cost of a taxi from Lefkimi to the airport? Better still is there a regular bus service, in which case has the 2013 timetable been published yet? Many thanks Jon View Topic: New Boat Between Paxos & Corfu |

Jean, google the name of your ferry, either F/B Corragio or F/B Forza, and you will find loads of info about them. They are similar to the Superfast boats but newer.
I'll try and post when we arrive, depends on how busy we are that first few days. Bob. View Topic: Who Is going To Acharavi This Year! |

We will be doing the same 1 week later. 1 night in Germany, 1 night in Mestre then ferry from Igy. Late into Acharavi, straight out for a beer in Adonis and a pitta gyros take away, if they are open?
Unload next day stuff for apartment, shop for fresh items, down to house near Roda, expecting flat pack kitchen there arriving from UK. Busy, busy but in a relaxed way...lol Have a great journey, if you have time let us know what new ferry like, please. Jean.

We arrive in France 15th, first night in Metz, second night with friends in Switzerland, next day 17th Venice Port (Troncheto), depart 1400hrs for Igoumenitsa, then ferry to Corfu, arrive late at night in Acharavi on the 18th. Hope Gianni's grill room is still open for a late night munch before driving up the hill to bed. Unload the car next day, and check out the neighbours for the winter gossip. Bob

To reassure you about the ferry crossing...yes you do have to get off the coach, but all your cases stay safely on your coach (just take your hand luggage with you). Once the coach is off the other side you can resume your journey. Thassos is not a large island so none of the transfers take too long.

Hi Tina
The apartment we are staying at is only available until the Tuesday - so we need to be on the move anyway. I'd rather just be able to walk to the ferry in the morning than rely on a taxi - hence Gaios. Looking forward to that chilled out feeling - only 63 days to go! I imagine we will have visited Gaios a few times as we are planning on doing loads of walks so we can suss somewhere out as you suggest. The Blue Grotto sounds like a good bet for a last night meal too!

JeffB, Olympic at the Bastas is the route we've gone but had a really bad time with Olympic, I might have to use them again.
Janmanessi Ferry is of course an option as well as the hydrofoil, the bus would be OK if we land at decent times, I must admit I wouldn't look forward to the walk pulling a suitcase each and a carry on bag into Gaios, would we need to go all the way into Gaios for the bus? Does it stop by the port?

Certainly Butrint is up there with Delphi, Ephesus and Mycenae as one of the most stunning archeological sites in Europe- if you get the chance to go I would grab it. You don't NEED to go on an organised tour, although of course it is easier, and you might like to have some company- get the ferry to Saranda and you can arrange a taxi and local guide once there

Hi Charlie7, No you dont have any hassle at all with the ferry journey, you leave all your cases and bags etc on the coach, the coach drives on to the ferry and you get back on when you arrive on Thassos to where you are staying. Dont know where you got 1 hour 50 minutes but I dont think it is that long. As I said its about 15 to 20 minutes form airport to port where you get of the coach and can sit and have a drink in the harbour bars till its time for the ferry, they run quite often about every half hour I think so never long to wait. Also the short ferry ride is amazing very refreshing after a 3 hour flight. Depends where you stay on Thassos as to how long the last leg of the journey is but it is a small Island. We have always stayed in Thassos town so not very far when you get back on coach. Hope this helps please ask if you need any more info and as I said the kids will love it.
By the way we booked with Thomson

We've got our usual couple of nights in Corfu Town before going on to Paxos in July and we fancied doing something a bit different. Has anyone taken the ferry to Saranda for the day?
I know there are organised excursions that take you around all the historical places of interest, but I just wondered whether it was practical to try and d-i-y. Is there enough in Saranda itself to fill a day, or if not, is it easy to get around on public transport? We'll have 3 weeks of lazy beach-bumming on Paxos, so we want to do something a bit more interesting than just find the nearest beach and lie down, but we don't want to risk missing the ferry back to Corfu - and our hydrofoil to Paxos the next day! So, is it worth doing as an independent trip, or is it more suitable for organised excursions (something that Mike really hates!!!) Thanks! View Topic: Daytrip To Albania |

Hi Susie H, Harakin sounds lovely, thanks for such detailed information. We have only found it with Olympic Holidays though, is that who you went with?
SILKS - Thassos looks really lovely too. 7 year old thinks the ferry sounds fab but husband concerned that this will complicate matters - do you have to get off the coach with all your cases etc. go on ferry journey, then get back on coach with cases etc.? At what point in the 1hour 50minute journey is the ferry crossing please? Thanks so much both of you. Any further info really helpful. ![]() View Topic: Where Else |

Another one to throw into the mix is Thassos. Lovely little island still very Greek, we loved it there is a short ride to port by coach then a lovely little ferry ride to the Island (the kids will love it) about 25 minutes with the seagulls flying along side you all the way.
Good Luck

Thanks again. We checked in the day before last year for our ferry from Corfu but agree that probably this will not be possible. Our return booking is also early and like Bob we will stay overnighy in Igoumenitsa.
A few more questions if I may. Do we need to pre-book the ferry from Corfu town to Igy? If so is it from the agencies opposite the port. Do these ferries go from the Old dock or the New dock? i.e left or right when entering port. Cheers View Topic: Ferry From Igoumenitsa |

I've never thought to try and check-in at the Corfu Town office, I doubt that you can as when Anek sailed from/to Corfu you could only check-in the day of sailing.
At the international port at Igoumenitsa you are supposed to check-in before you enter the port, but when we did it last year we were too early and the office wasn't open, rather than sit around outside the port we just rolled up at the entrance, although stopped from entering there was traffic behind us so the police had to let us in. There is access to the terminal- office building from both sides. Our return booking later in the year, we will have to overnight in Igoumenitsa, the local ferrys do not start early enough to guarantee catching the Anek to Venice.

We were there last summer with the grandkids. Although I really liked Santorini it was very busy in the summer. We only met one other UK couple during our six day stay there. Loved Oia and Fira but didn't visit Perissa.
Although we had read many reviews saying how expensive Santorini is we found it cheaper than Corfu but not as beautiful. We arrived on the island on a ferry from Crete and left on a little Fokker (F27) to Naxos. We flew Air Minoan which I didn't realise existed until we went to book the ferry.
Well worth a visit but I don't think I would want to go back in the near future.

All the tavernas are good but my favourite was the one at the far left of the front, (with back facing the sea if that makes sense)
There is little to do on Halki except walk LOL The monastery is a long hot hike but worth it Boatmen will take you to more secluded coves and pick you up later (promise) There is a a daily local ferry to Rhodes but watch the return times, you may only be there long enough to explore the nearby castle and have lunch... and there are also excursion ferries to Alimina, a fascinating island inhabited only by sheep but containing the ruins of the German U boat docks. Great for snorkeling If you are a good swimmer it is possible to swim into the bay just before the fishermen return, with the dolphins following them, or you can just watch from the beach The beach and rocks at the top of the hill through the village = along Tarpon Springs Boulevard is brilliant if you want to snorkel too. The place is full of octopus, eels and colourful fish Although the island has no cars the village has everything you will need as long as your needs are fairly basic. There is a baker (there may even be two rival ones still) and a couple of good mini markets Halki is not a place for loud music, more the sort of place to relax and watch the wonderful sunsets, everything turns pink, I kid you not!! Enjoy We loved it View Topic: Halki |

You just turn up, the ticket offices post their next sailing times in their windows, you just choose which one suits you, the slipper ferrys (the old fashioned flat fronted ones) take 2 hours to Corfu Town, the bigger ones take 11/2hrs. I like the older slipper models just because I like the old fashioned feel of them.
I don't know if there is a difference in price, I've never thought to ask.

The ferry runs every hour, outwards on the hour and return on the half hour. The cost is around 2€ return. If you enter my username on the member search, you can then select my photo gallery and there are photos of Vidos and the ferry. Yammas, Colin.

Hi Pat. Yes I'm Moyra. I still miss the old Agni, it's not the same now, but better than nothing. They've been having a bad time in Sidari this winter, what with torrential rain, flooding, power cuts, ferry strkes, etc. etc. Not just Sidari of course - the whole of Corfu! However it'll hopefully be better by the time we get over there. Where is The Sunny Corfu? I can't place it. We'll try popping in to Jenni's a couple of times and try to catch up with you. There are plenty of hotels a waterbus ride from Piazzale Roma- for an unpretentious but excellent small one I like Locanda Fiorita best, but Antico Capone is also good and can be reached on foot from Piazzale Roma. Both have websites.
Local ferry prices vary considerably depending on time of day, open or closed, etc. but when you get to Igoumenitsa drive to local port (2 minutes) and ask in the booths. Also ask if that line gives a discount for a return ticket (return is open but can only be used on that company's boats). Price will be approximately 60 Euros for car plus 2 people. Thanks everyone. Will have a look at the hotels suggested and also at hotels in Piazzale Roma. We once travelled to Corfu by train and spent a whole day in Venice and it was magical for the children. Hence the reason my daughter wanted to visit again.
We haven't travelled from Ancona before so thanks to your advice will leave extra time. Can you tell me the approximate price of the ferry from Igoumenitsa to Corfu.

Just had a troll round various web sites and it would appear that F/Bs Coraggio and Forza, are sister ships to Superfast l and ll, along with a few others.
And that, Kritti l and ll are laid up, although still mentioned on the Anek fleet list. Coraggio was originally leased to Stena Lines for North Sea operations. Interestingly, it would seem that Minoan lines are now owned by Grimaldi Lines. That might explain why last autumn, our Minoan Fast Ferry was replaced by the Grimaldi Venus Palace, not a good comparison or experiance.

Aliyanna, have you travelled from Ancona before, if not, I would suggest you allow a little extra time to locate the check-in area, it is a little distance from the port itself, and we found it quite confusing.
As it happened, we had plenty of time because the Minoan ferry was running late anyway. Bob

So sorry wrote the last post late at night and forgot to mention most of the facts. We are taking the ferry from Ancona. We are travelling with our two teenage children and it could possibly be the last time we drive for some years. Our daughter will be going to uni next summer for 5 years and has requested that we visit Venice on our trip. We have never travelled with Minoan before but have booked outside cabins. Sorry for the confusion.

So excited, we have just booked with Minoan for July. We have a home in Benitses and last time we drove was from Venice with Anek. We plan to travel from Hull to Rotterdam and then down to Venice to spend a day sightseeing. We will set off on 19th July from Hull and our Minoan ferry is on Tuesday 23rd. Last time our journey was hurried so hope to enjoy it more this time. If any one has any advice on any part of our journey would love to hear it.

Its sister shop F/B Forza sails the same route on alternative trips.
One is run directly by Anek, the other by Grimaldi Lines. They were both built for the Italian Grimaldi Lines. If you Google the name Ferry Boat Coraggio, or Forza you will find a web site that gives you all the information about these ships. We are booked for April as well as it happens. Bob. We've just travelled back to Corfu on the Anek Coraggio ferry. The ship
is a lot smaller passenger wise with less facilities and smaller cabins.
All adequate but less frills. The ship is reasonably new with 2 lounges
with TVs, a bar/cafe and the S/S restaurant. A small games room and the
aircraft seat room. The cabins are at the top of the ship, Deck 5/6. Much smaller than the Kriti 1/2 and more cargo than cars.

Hoping to make Best Western hotel Pforzheim as half way stopover then Ambascitor, Mestre, Venice night before ferry. Has anyone got any idea if ferries to Corfu from Igy run after 18.00? Do they stop at a certain time in the evening? All answers gratefully received.

We took the over night train from Paris to Venice, we had a triple room very comfy, breakfast included, the 4 aren't bad but don't sleep on bottom bunk ask for middle, 6 I would not bother with, cheap yes but if there only 2-4 you may have to share with other people, the first class is brilliant but expensive, or you can get the fast train during the day instead, then the ferry to Igromenstia then Corfu, hope this helps you.

Hi all, we are going to Kassiopi in August and by way of a change I fancy doing it by train and ferry to Corfu town. Has any one done this? I have seen a good European train travel site (Man in seat 61) and it suggests travelling to Bari or Brindisi in Italy then a ferry to Corfu Town. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Sam
At the moment there isn't a ferry on a Saturday, also last year there wasn't either, but the timetables are all quite unpredictable & by Easter could well have changed again! And of course, there might be extras put into service for the holiday weekend. Even the new boat (Thespina) which should start on March 1st doesn't make a Saturday run until mid-May. My mistake, she was built just 2 years ago (that is launched in 2010) and is operated by the Grimaldi Line. Its the other one that is operated supposedly by Anek Lines.
We are on the other one in March, I will give an idea of how it compared to the previouse ferrys when we get to Corfu.

Google Ferry Boat Forza and you will find it. Was built for the Grimaldi Lines in Italy about 4 years ago, it is very similar to the other boat that Anek are useing on the Venice route this year, If I remember correctly, Forza is operated by Anek and the other one by Grimaldi. They are smaller than the old Kritii 1 and 2 that used to do the Venice run.

Spud, there is no best route as such, it all depends on what you prefer, as we are getting on in years, we stick pretty much to motorways and divide the main route into 3 seperate roughly equal sections, with 2 overnight stops. One in France and the other in Switzerland (we have friends there who kindly put us up) it works best for Venice with an easy run down in time for the ferry, the Milan- Venice autoroute has been improved over some years and is now pretty good by comparison to a few years ago.

Thanks to all of you for the information. If it is a problem getting from Paxos to Parga, it may be best just to day trip Paxos from Corfu Town, stay overnight close to the port and then ferry over to Igoumenista, then bus to Lefkada and visit Megannisi.
We still want to take in Kefalonia and Zante so would hope to go from Vasiliki to Ithaca, then on to Kefalonia at Sami, out of Argostoli to Zante, and out of Zante to Killini on the mainland.
We then need to get over to Athens so hopefully there is a decent bus service from Killini via Patras or maybe Pyrpos?
It's an option, I suppose, to miss Zante out and go by ferry from Sami to Patras and then on by bus?
Another possibility could be a cheap flight out of Zante to Athens or possibly take Janmanessi's tip on flying from Zante to Kithera! However, the key to the trip is flexibility and don't want to tie ourselves down to a schedule. If we don't do all we want this year, we'll be back next year.
best wishes,
Terry

The ferry from Nidri (Lefkada) across to Meganissi, calls first at Spartahori before then going on to Vathi.
It made us smile to see the local bus leave the ferry at Spartahori before making its way across the island to Vathi. We also noticed that on occassions house owners waited for the ferry passengers who might be looking for accomodation.

Hi Vangerover,
I agree with SusieH, but you will need to be on a ferry that docks at Vathi. Then turn left walk and ask... Meganissi is a beautiful Island. JoseFina View Topic: Island Hopping Ideas |

Hi Vangerover, I know there are daytrips from Parga to Paxos, but I'm not so sure how easy it is to arrange travel in the opposite direction. The alternative would be a ferry from Paxos to Igoumenitsa and bus it down the coast to Levkas, possibly via stops in Sivota and Parga. Then from Levkas, I think it's still possible to get local ferries on to Kefalonia, Ithaca and Zakynthos.

My Michelin 737 map shows that there is a ferry route from Paxos to Vasiliki on Lefkada and/or, from Paxos to Fiskardo on Zante. Were these routes going in 2012 and does anyone know of plans to run them in 2013?

Sounds good, we will probably get the ferry down to Paxos, stay a night or so, maybe a day trip to Antipaxos, and then over to Parga.
Best wishes,
Terry

Hiya, we were probably going to visit Paxos on a day trip from Corfu as we read that hotels etc., were very expensive in Paxos. However, if that wasn't the case, another plan was to stay overnight in Paxos and get a one way ferry/daytrip to Parga and the bus onto Lefkada. Any thoughts?
Best wishes,
Terry

In September 2010 I went on a ferry to Albania and whilst coming into the inner seating room I noticed a woman wiping what looked like oil off her husbands legs and arm, I thought it rather strange at the time. A few minutes later I went to the toilet and after I had peed! I turned round to wash my hand and noticed in the mirror that I too was covered in spots of dirty oil all over my body including my brand new England shirt. On top of that I was sitting on a bench seat in the inner area to get away from the oil which was being discharged from the funnel of probably a very old engine, when a large window about 36" X 72" fell out onto the seat next to me. None of the staff seemed too put out and just propped it up onto the seat and carried on as if nothing untoward had happened. In England the ship would have been banned from leaving port until it had had a full service! Also, whilst on the open topped bus to see the ruins, a funeral passed us and the coffin was open to the elements and we could see a young man lying in there who had fallen off a roof. Very sobering.
Frank.

Hiya,
We are starting to plan a 5 week island hop from September 1st. My original idea was to get a flight to Athens, metro down to the Piraeus and get the first ferry out and see where we ended up!
However, as we love Corfu, we are starting there, flying in and staying in Corfu Town for one night, bussing up to Sidari for a couple of nights to visit some old haunts and maybe back to Corfu Town but we are aiming to be very flexible. We have the flights in and out of Greece booked (out of Athens on October 5th) and the first three nights hotels to give us a start.
We would like to visit Kefalonia, Zante etc but are not sure of the best way to get down there i.e. ferry down to Patra and get a connection, or bus from Igoumenitsa to Lefkada and work our way down through the islands. The problem I see is getting back to the mainland and back to Athens.
Has anyone got any suggestions re island hopping in the Ionian Islands and the best routes to take, and maybe some must do's and don'ts. Any suggestions on getting from the mainland to Athens would be welcome.
many thanks,

Hi all,
We are renovating a house in Roda and this year need to put in the kitchen. It's small and will compose of around 3x1000m and 1x500m base units and probably 2x500 and 1x1000m wall units. All with doors. Can anyone recommend anywhere in Corfu where we can buy these at a reasonable cost? We only want simple and basic units. Or what would be a rough estimate of getting it brought over from UK. Dilemma for us at the moment. We have friends in Corfu who say that many places are not re-stocking and many have closed. All suggestions gratefully received. We live in South Wales so not close to any ferry ports. Thank you.

You do not need to prebook an Igoumenitsa Corfu ferry, they leave at regular intervals, rarely more than 2 hours apart and the ticket offices are in the domestic port opposite the ferries. If you want a timetable call 2661365200 for an automated timetable in Greek.

Hi again. Have checked both main ferry lines and as you all said looks like; Trieste to Igoumenitsa with Minoan and Venice Igoumenitsa with Anek. Do you have to pre-book ferry for onward journey from Igoumenitsa to Corfu? If so can someone give me a link, please. If not where do you book in Igoumenitsa?
Sorry for all these questions, much easy when we could go like last year direct.

We are booked on the Coraggio both ways, is about 200mts long, max speed 24 knots, less than 500 cabins, the other ferry Anek are useing on the Venice run this year is very similar. Both were built for the Grimaldi line, but being much newer, they've got to be streets better than the Zeus Palace, this was the junk heap Minoan Lines dumped on us last year, instead of the Europa Palace into Ancona.

On our UK bound trip we picked a stormy day in November and woke up to find no ferries were able to leave Corfu. We eventually heard that a single ferry was leaving at 2pm (which eventually left at 4pm). We hurried straight into town to claim our tickets and glad we could at least start our journey, We stayed overnight in the Angelika Pallas Hotel in Igoumenitsa overlooking the port. Very reasonable at €50 for b&b although the breakfast room wasn't open when we left early in the morning. The hotel has a restaurant but we chose to go into town where we had a great meal in a traditional taverna called Akti. The trip on the Kriti 1 was then uneventful until we reached Venice and were held up docking for 5 hours due to fog. Next trip will be with Minoan as we want to try the new Trieste route, return ticket €618. (outside cabin, one car, no dog!) View Topic: Travelling By Ferry |

Hi Mansej,
I've been looking at the ferry routes and for main season (June in our case). Anek DO NOT call into Corfu. The Minoan Trieste-Ancona-Igoumenitsa ferry also does NOT call into Corfu. There are regular local ferries from Igoumenitsa to Corfu. These local ferry times aren't very good for the return trip, Igoumenitsa to Venice at 7am. Part of the reason why we use the Igoumenitsa-Ancona ferries, Anek or Minoan. You might like the Trieste port used by Minoan. Good luck View Topic: Travelling By Ferry |

After reading this thread with interest I have come to one conclusion. Its cheaper to go to Athens by bus/ferry from Corfu than it it to get a taxi to Kassiopi
