And here's another one.....

Every year I come to Corfu and it doesn't matter what remedy I try - spray, plugs, garlic tablets, covering myself - they always get me, except this year. Why, what did I do differently? Well (and I don't recommend this as a cure but it made a difference) just before I came to Corfu I moved house and the previous owners had cats. Unfortunately (or fortunately when it comes to mossies) they left fleas in the carpet and I got bitten quite badly around my ankles. Not nice. but, I then came to Corfu for 3 weeks and got NO mosquito bites for the first time ever. This may not sound great to most people but to someone  whose legs normally swell to twice the size after getting bitten it was rather good.

I think I'll be visitng the local cattery before I come again!!

Sam

PS If anyone can explain this I'd be really grateful (and we could make a fortune in mossie bite cures!)

just been given a thing called Click,it gives you relief from bites in minutes, not very quick, but i'm told by another gardener, that its brilliant.you put the end of it on the bite, click it 5 times,it sends a minute electric charge to the area, which stops the itch.apparently,10 clicks reduces swelling, and i've been told not to scoff, got lots of fresh bites,so will report on any successes, bobbo

Years ago I lived on the Fens and every summer we were absolutely plagued with mosquitoes......one year, my son who is disabled, was so badly bitten I thought he had measles or chickenpox -  or something equally grotty that kids are prone to .........called the GP and he was completely flummoxed until he finally sussed out that it was dozens of mozzie bites!

He had literally got bitten from head to foot overnight........our elderly neighbours who'd lived there all their lives advised us to leave an open bottle of clove oil in the rooms.......and when outside walking or gardening or whatever rub fresh parsley on any exposed skin..........no - you don't turn green  ........using plantain leaves or a slice of lemon or onion to reduce the swelling and take the itch away if you did get a bite.........and it worked..........obviously you can't use the parsley whilst you're on holiday and you haven't always got the remedies to hand either!!  But just as a thought ..........most mozzie bites seem to occur after dark when they've been attracted to a light don't they ?....I suppose you just could just pinch the lemon from your cocktail!!   (or his!  )

I always pack clove oil when travelling abroad and haven't been bitten once........another bit of useless info is it's supposed to be good for toothache too........the clove oil that is........takes the edge off the pain......tastes foul though!

Old wives tales maybe............but there's always truth in these old tales somewhere........and if it works it's a better option than spraying the rooms you're staying in (and yourself) with pesticide............

I tried to buy the Avon stuff online but after 20 days called them and they said that they 'hadn't a record of the order'.

They did have my address credit details and delivery address though and seemed to think it was my fault that their system did not work!

I had received a fully detail email acknowledgement but was told this was 'just an automatic system' and not anything to do with the ordering process.

Anyone else had a problem?

Yep,

Had exactly the same problem.......my order still hadn't been delivered after two weeks of waiting so called them yesterday. They were very apologetic and helpful and everything's sorted now.

Not too bad at all yorkshire lass......they seem to get worse (or hungrier) nearer the end of the season.

I rarely get many bites in May, but suffer come September.

Just remember your repellents and you should be OK.

I'll be out in May too, so hope they aren't too bad X
