We are booked into a villa through Thomsons, leaving in 11 days...

Just been having another look through the brochure and it says that Maid Service is only once per week.  As we are only going for one week - I take it that we wont really see one at all.

Does that mean that I have to do housework????!!!!  Don't fancy trying to work a washing machine (with Greek instructions) when the towels run out  And who is going to clean the loos?

We normally rent out country cottages in the UK, so I know that muggins here normally gets left with normal housekeeping duties - but it didn't register that I would have to do it in Corfu.

Oh well, we'll just have to "slum it" for a week

Is there anyone with any experience of Thomson Villas?

Cheers.

there for only one week.---probably won`t see or need a "maid." there will be suffient linen for your needs--a washing machine?? a bottle of bleach for the toilet is very cheap. "rough " it for a week it`s fun , and mum just don`t clean up after the family (if they are older kids).

are you from granton  in edinburgh ? my son is in boswall . where is your villa in corfu ?

Maid service once usually does mean that the villa will be prepared for your arrival only I'm afraid.

Washing machines are very easy to use.  If you can use one in Uk you will definately manage a greek one!  Just don't forget to put in water softening tablet.

Thanks folk!

Knowing my kids, (girls 14 & 11) they will go through the whole weeks allocation of towels in a day!!!

Yes, we only have villa for a week as my husband doesn't really like the heat too much and I dont think that he would last a fortnight.  Off to Spain in October though - so that is compensation.

Hi Lizzie.  No I'm not in Granton, but in Dalgety Bay, Fife which is just over the water and can see Granton from the house. (Don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing)    We lived in Edinburgh previously though, not far from there in Trinity, so know it well.

Our villa is in Nissaki.

10 days to go. .....................

Hi Granton

We had a Thomson villa in San Stephanos last october for one week. The owner, a lovely Greek lady called Foula, came in on the Monday( we arrived on the previous friday).

She didn't speak any english and after she had been in to clean the villa, changed the towels and sheets, she reappeared with a lovely plate of her homemade spagetti bolognese. It was absolutely delicious! The Thomson rep told me that earlier in the year her son had got married at the wee church up in the hills at Porta. Foula and her husband arranged for the guests in her two villas to be taken up to the wedding. You just can't beat the Greeks for their hospitality.

We also had a problem with our hot water after a rain storm. This time she brought a huge sticky cake and some sugared almonds for the children.

Her villas are Magda and Foula and are very convenient for the shops and tavernas.

Hi Granton, we have just returned from a Thomsons Villa hol too, albeit we stayed for a fortnight just up the road from you near ag stephanos. Our villa was 'serviced' on Mondays and Fridays.

There will be a Thomsons folder in your villa that explains everything about your villa including the operational instructions for your washing machine should you wish to use it.

Thanks everyone!

I'm sure we'll manage fine.  I just wasn't especially keen on cleaning out the bins in the loos,  because, as you know there is a different procedure for disposure of loo paper in Greece.

My goodness Mrs D - what a nice lady you had at your villa!  Don't suppose we'll be lucky enough to have one of them.  Fingers crossed though....

Not long now... can't wait..
