Can anyone recommend a store in Corfu to purchase furniture?  We have a home in Paleo that needs some furniture.  In addition, is there any such thing as a flea market on Corfu where used items can be purchased?

Thank you,

Mderobertis

as far as i know there are no flea markets on corfu - things just don't get sold in the way we tend to!

you could try anaplasis at http://www.corfureclamation.com/ as they specialise in corfiot antiques etc.

also for further info on furniture, try searching using the magnifying glass icon at the top of the page!

Try Ebenos on the main road into Corfu Town at Gouvia - they do a fantastic range of good value outdoor furniture and in their sister shop next door there is a huge show room of mainly impoterd Italian furniture.

Not necessarily the cheapest but  good quality.

Our best deal was to have furniture made by the local craftsman in our village. A beautifull 3 meters by 1 meter wooden table for 300 Euro. Where ever I shopped in Corfu, I couldn't find anything like it. What furniture do you exactly need so we can further help you?

Dear Bluewhale,

That table you describe is what I'm looking for, but I need it to be counter high so I can use it as a work space in the kitchen.  I would need some high chairs to be made to go with it.  I also need some chairs to go in the bedrooms.

Thanks for your advise,

mderobertis

Traditional simple bedroom chairs are available all over the place,

We bought some a while ago from a travelling man with a truck, not a gypsy,we have looked for him since but to no avail, needless to say we kicked ourselves for not buying more at the time. He gave us his phone number but of course we have lost it.

There is a "flea market" selling reclaimed architectural items, some furniture and bric-a-brac. If you are travelling from the North into Corfu Town turn left towards the old port and it is on the left. None of them spoke English except a young boy who had a few words but we managed to barter and buy a marble sink using our knowledge of Greek numbers.
They had some old Corfiot Bread tables.

We had the table made at the carpenter who is on the main road between Sidari and Roda (after Karousades) on the right site. Best is to give him a call at 26630 31 933. His son George speaks very well English. We bought good wooden chairs in Corfu Town close to the market. We painted them in different colors, which really looks nice.

And what about beds? I am coming to my house in Korakiana in a few weeks and don't have bought beds yet. So I'll look for them during my forst day of holiday. Could you raccomend me a place that sells beds' structures? I don't like very much the "studio-style" wooden beds and I would look for something more stylish.

Thank you for the advices.

Daniele

Daniele,

I think you need to bring an inflatable to get started. I am returning to order beds next week from a little shop just off San Rocco square. I know that one of the beds has a 3 week wait before it arrives but the others can take up to a week for delivery. Remember, this is Corfu. You can have any bed you want but you order it from a catologue and wait for it to arrive from Italy or Athens.

Depending on the number of rooms you have to furnish, our best deal was the IKEA shop with really nice stuff and bringing it to the island, including matrasses, couches and linnen.
