Cloud, I know how difficult is is for many of your countrymen to travel across Europe like this and in is normally done when finishing College and after retirement due to the poor holiday entitlement in USA, but I hope you can return many times and continue to enjoy visiting the many varied countries around the world.

Cloud...thank you for sharing your beautiful sentiments.

Im also please that you have been able to travel and gain something wonderful from it.

I have alot of American friends who havent been as lucky as you to travel and often dont know what is happening in other states let alone the rest of the world.

Hope you can come back soon.

Hi ya ..Its me again..sorry about giving Mexico another plug..When there last year....I met so Meany fellow America's and drooped a few clangers by calling some of them canadians...But had so much fun with them...Talking about fishing and all that (as i do)We got into a conversation one night at the bar about fishing and decided to book a fishing trip with the locals..so the following day we went down and booked for an afternoons fishing...($100 dollars for two hours) and that is split be ween the four of you at that..so $25 each..and you can negotiate more time to fish when you are out there fishing..And what a laff we had when we met up to go the three other Americans had six packs of beer....Well of we set over the reef and out beyond into the deep waters trawling out side the reef up and down hopefully to catch baracuda...well it was ruff out there the other two the Mexicans wear quite happy drinking are beer as i me being an harden fisherman it did not worry me after the fist hour and two packs of beer later it started to tell on two of the Americans(me and Jake wear OK  and stared to crack joke with one another and trying to explain the jokes to the Mexicans while the other two wear humping up over the side of the boat..But i give it to them they did not give up being sick as soon  as they jerk up(as they say) they would drink more..and be sick  more...Well into the second hour one of the lines broke away and a fish was on(and it was my line)so not to be dishearten i handed it over to one that being sick the most...And that cured him..he was over the moon playing the fish for 10 minuets or so..any way landed it it was only a small one of about 15 pounds or so....so he was about to take the hook out and the Mexicans said  shouted no..(what he said) o teeth like  very sharp..so he drooped it on the deck of the boat..well it was not a happy fish and started biting every thing it could get holed of (I was ********ing my self with laughing to much) next minit to Americans jumping out the boat(well i laugh until i cried i did)Well any way we got them back in the boat and cared on fishing( the one thing it did it stopped them being sick any more)and the wind dyed down and the waters went calm and went on to catch more baracuda...The moral of this story is we had a great time with the yanks and every morning in the dinning rooms we would have a laugh about it..and got invited to a July the 4th celebration with them all and how friendley they wear to us and to crack a joke or two with them.......And thats another story!!!....chris

Hi Cloud,

I too found your post most refreshing.

I don't know where this aphorism originated but it is so true (except, of course in your case, now.)

"To an American 100 years is a long time, to an Englishman/woman 100 miles is a long way."

Is it also true that 92% of Americans do not have a passport?

Gareth

it reminds me of my first visit to corfu 20 years ago , i thought then the greek people were warm, open, wecoming people who were only too glad to share the delights of their country and their culture its an opinion i still have after all these years the friends i made on my first visit have remained friends and their children have grown up and we feel privilaledged to have seen them grow up and they share their perants views on making sure that the previous generations views are kept up so to to all my greek friends thank you for all for helping me learn about greece its history and its culture

Hi cloud, what a lovely post and just wanted to say thank you so much for sharing your onderful experiences with us, reading it was wonderful, and Id like to thank you for telling us about it.

I love Corfu,as I have said before going there makes me feel like I am going home, despite loving my home. I struggle with bi-polar and find it hard to relax but as soon as I arrive on my holidays in Corfu I know I can relax and have some time out and just enjoy being away from the hassle of the "rat race" and can be just me! Whether Im laying on my sunbed enjoying the sun, floating on a €3 lilo in the pool or eating my way through a delicious meal

Going to Corfu for 14 days a year makes the other 300 other days at work seem so worthwhile

Hi Cloud, that really was a touching post.  I'm sure that back in the States your changed conciousness and outlook on the world will inspire some of your fellow citizens, as it has so many people on this forum.  Thanks to you, the world is already a little better place.

N'aste Kala

Purrypuss:  You get to go to Corfu for 14 days EACH YEAR?  Wow.

I do hope all you Brits know how lucky you are since, as was pointed out above, we Americans (most especially the ones 5,500 miles away on the West Coast) find it extremely difficult to go to Europe, let alone Greece.  There are NO mandated paid vacations, NO mandated pensions (Social Security doesn't count, 'cause it is roughly 1/10th the cost of living at a subsistence level of living), plus, it costs us thousands of dollars to just GET to Corfu, not to mention days and days of arduous travel.

My last trip to Corfu, I had to work for 14 YEARS before I finally got a paid vacation with enough time (3 weeks) to get me to Corfu again!  And that was my first paid vacation of any sort at all in 14 years.  This is rather typical, unless one works for IBM or something, which nobody does, really.

However, IT WAS WORTH IT!  Every horrible day at work those long years was worth it.

Did I say I love Corfu madly?
