i agree with you, broadsman.  until february i was a 20 a day girl, but in the space of three days, my father-in-law passed away following a long fight with emphysema, and i was hospitalised for a week following an ashtma attack.

i gave up there and then - not being to pious, but i had to have one when we were in kassiopi (drunk again...) i could'nt help thinking, i did THAT for 20years - what was the attraction?

give up while you can.  its not that hard - just stop!

Many thanks for the advice broads,  I am sure many of us smokers are well aware of the potential health risks of smoking the dreaded weed, and also many of have tried so hard to quit, and despite the adverts and advice, we continue to do it. My Gran smoked forty a day and lived to be 92, so I guess its our personal choice how we decide to treat our bodies, I work in an alcohol rehab/mental illness unit and could go on forever about the dangers of drinking alcohol, despite enjoying a good bender now and then myself, and I bet its something you enjoy as well and I am sure many vegetarians could give advice about the dangers of eating red meat etc and pedestrians could go on about the damage caused by pollution from cars etc.

Many thanks for the advice and I hope your mother recovers.

Now wheres me Benylin cough cough

PS Surely paying €2 is better than paying £5

Well Done Becky, did you do cold turkey or use any patches?

I know smoking is bad, and Id love just to be able to give up, and I totally admire people who have done it, but I am sure when you smoked for the twenty years you felt the same. My mum is now a none smoker, but oh so SMUG with it, when someone lights a ciggie up, she does the drama queen stuff, but we caught her on holiday having a sly one in the toilets!

I am concerned that this thread may go into yet another non smoking v smoking debate, which we have had in the past, and caused some concern on the boards and with the Admin Team.

Therefore, I am closing this thread with immediate effect.

Regards.
