Can anyone tell me what the mobile phone coverage is like in corfu?

I'm with O2 and the wife is with T-Mobile, which will work better if either.

Many Thanks

Anne & Geraint

You will need to check with your service provider regarding costs of calls when using them abroad.  You will find that when you get to Greece you will actually be using one of the greek networks. You normally have to pay for receiving calls as well as making them, I find it is better to use text messages. Call your provider and they will tell you of any deals that they have for Europeon Roaming and the costs, they may have to switch the service on for you. The signal is generally ok , it depends how good your phone is.

Hi Anne and Graint,

I am on 02 and have never had any problems with any of the local networks on Corfu. Like others are saying check how much calls in and out are. You will find texting to be the cheapest option.

I've only had problems in a little village called Strongli (southern Corfu), but then I believe all the locals have the same problem, so it's not my Brit phone.

Watch your costs though, even when phoning Greek phones/mobiles, my bill when I got home was three times what I normally pay.

I dont use my mobile often on holiday, Im a cheap skate  and its lovely to get away from it for a few weeks, and the novelty of using one of those little phones on the street hasnt worn off yet!

We are both with O2 and have never had any problems when at Corfu and agree with Jules....texting is cheaper.....and I hardly noticed much increase in my bill even though I texted home quite a lot over last summers stay.

I'm with Vodafone I'm afraid so can't really help. I find with mine however that as soon as I am in the terminal building and put my phone on I immediately get a message from the Greek firm welcoming me to Greece and giving me emergency numbers etc.The signal can vary if inland but on the whole I manage to get my messages ok. Watch out however when making calls-I was blethering away to a friend one evening and forgot to look at the time I was on-yikes major phone bill.

If I was to take my Virgin phone and my dad was to take his to corfu at the same time, when calling each other in Corfu would we have to pay international rates or would it be local call costs?

thanks in advance, :-)

What I was advised to do was save all my phone number to Phone on my mobile...so when I changed to my Greek sim card all i had to do was put 003 in front of the phone number and let my family know my Greek number to contact me. When you go home do the reverse.

If you use your UK mobiles (sim card) you will be charged at international rate and can be costly.

Go to Acharavi there's a shop that does mobile phone it open last year they are very helpful. Whereas before that, you had to travel into Corfu Town.

Hi Rosanna

Yes you will be charged international rates! In fact a few years ago, may have changed now, I was charged double rate!!! A certain mobile phone co explained it was because the call was basically going back to England and then back out to Corfu! As I said this was some time ago and with the charges for mobiles coming down, this has probably changed.

Sue
