Hi

Over last week or so I've noticed interbank rate has gone up from 1.4350 to hit over 1.4700 this morning, highest for a couple of months.

Bearing in mind rubbish opposition to rubbish labour party once again so assuming a labour party victory early May then can any nice capitalist/economist out there tell me whether to wait till after election to transfer a relatively large sum in hope stability will strengthen the pound or will rate fall for some reason I'm not aware of or is it just a case of chance and people in the know simply pretend to know?

Hi Ian

Whilst not being an ecomomist (and therefore not really qualified to answer)I too have noticed this trend. My guess is that, rather than the UK general election having too much of a bearing on this, it is more likely to be the potential outcome of the French referendum (May 29th) that is causing the fluctuations.

The recent poor performance of Chirac and the "yes" camp has lead to the "no" camp increasing its support to 56%. This, in turn, must be causing some lack of confidence in the whole EU project (experiment?)

Maybe the FRench will be able to celebrate their own "Non" or "Okey" day soon (LOL)

Thanks Janey, will have a look soon.

Yes Martyn, interesting, I agree with your opinion, I made mistake of looking too close to home at the pound and not what is probably more important from an exchange rate standpoint, Europe & the Euro.

Whatever happens I hope it carries on going up. I spoke to my money transfer people last week, and he did seem to think that the up coming election was having a beneficial effect, although I must admit, my eyes started to glaze over as he went into the details...

I've budgeted for a transfer rate of 1.42, so any extra would be a bonus and buy me a few more Mythos

Not as much fun as lottery Debbie but I saved 700 euros last time just by playing one transfer company against another (I think I've mentioned this before haven't I).

You could pick up 1.450-1.46 if you jumped now, I don't know when I'll bottle out and transfer but I'm not sweating just yet.

Its a gamble isn't it! I will have to hold off a couple of weeks at least, as I've yet to open a Corfu Bank account. My purchase also could be months away, so what to do for the best??? 1.47 sounds very good though, think the highest I've known it was 1.49 last year, although I could be wrong.

You're about right, at least over last couple of years, further back it was 1.69........................... deep sigh...............................another deep sigh.

Hi Eco,

We have not "spoken " before . I am building near Kassiopi . We are having the same sort of dilemmas as yourselves re: exchange rate .

We bought our plot last year with 1.50 to the pound . Had to re-buy [ long story ] but the extra needed was only at 1.43 .

I have just bought a fair lump at 1.45 . That is what I budgeted at to make sure we could afford to do what we want . Anything else would be a bonus .

You can be too greedy and be let down with unexpected variants to the rates . I estimated that between 1.43 and 1.50 that would be a difference of £ 14,000 on our final price .

If you want to discuss further please PM me as open discussion at the moment is sensitive

Regards...............John and Hilary
