Hi

I posted something similar in another thread but it's probably best here.

I need some advice please. I shall be on Corfu from early May and two members of my family are coming out for a visit at the end of May. They have managed to find a cheap allocation on arrival holiday. I will be situated in the North West and another member of our familty will be in Ag. Gordis. There is a possibility that on arrival they will be allocated, say, Kavos.

Does anyone know my chances of success if one the day of there arrival I visit the airport, find the First choice reps, explain the situation and ask that they are allocated close to us if accommodation is available of course. After all it will alter nothing that anybody knows about at the time and first choice will benefit from my increased regard for them.

There is a possibility that the reps will have everything sorted  and be unwilling to alter at the last minute. As you will be out earlier than your family how about going to the airport the week or so before they arrive to speak to the reps. This will give them time to sort it without the hustle and bustle of the airport run.

You could also try to find out who the first choice rep is in the Ag Gordis area and sound them out as to the possibility.

Good Luck

Raine

Thanks very much Raine, good advice.

Do you know if the 'reps' on the Island sort it out or whether the accommodastion is allocated beforehand from UK?

Is there a First choice head office on Corfu?

My main thought is that since there are only two of my family sharing and since this is the most common situation then to swop one two bed in one area for another in another area is no big deal. I will do as you suggest and visit the reps a week or so beforehand (armed with a bottle of ouzo  , or should it be wine I wonder)

ECO .....i tried to do the same last year before we travelled out but was told no can do...but maybe if you can contact whoever does the allocating for the tour firm in corfu you may have a chance, sometimes they go off people ages as to where you are put!

I thought it was the reps themselves that allocated the accom. but now I think about it I don't know for certain. I do know that the changeover days and the airport run is their busiest time.

Members based on the island may know about where to find the base for the First choice reps. I know there was a reps office in San Stephanos (NW) last year but it could have been Thompson or anyone.

Good luck

If you look out the thread I posted the jobs in at the weekend (do a search on author Mantoukigirl or Mantouki girl) then I think the phone number for the vacancies with First Choice is their main office, in Potamos.  If not the main one then I am sure they can tell you it.

As an ex Thomson Rep I know that the allocations for these sorts of booking are normally worked out by the local resort office. It is very unlikely that they will be very flexible as these bookings are used to fill up the allocations with properties where they are currently under-capacity and have an obligation to try to get them more bookings. There is quite a lot of local politics involved in this process and, whilst I never worked in Corfu, I understand that Corfu is probably more political than most.

Having said all that, there is no harm trying to establish who the head honcho is in resort and asking him or her what could be done.

Thanks Petraki, good points and info. from someone who has worked at this sharp end.

I still think that since I would only be asking for a straight swop for what accommodation has already been earmarked and not trying to ask for 'new accommodation' then it is not asking too much so as you suggest I'll give it a go when I get over to Corfu.

At the end of the day, as Dave says, they may choose to allocate a 'Northern' resort for my family in any case taking account of their ages.
