Hi,
We've been to Corfu once, several years ago and unfortunately had a poor experience - mainly our own fault, we chose the wrong resort. We'd love to come back but need advice on where to stay, can you help please? A mid June arrival is our preference.
We're a couple in our 60's so nightclubs not needed
We prefer smaller (but reasonable quality) hotels
We always eat Greek food so access to tavernas is essential
We don't want English breakfasts or beer
We'd like either a sandy beach or a good pool or both
If Corfu is wrong for us, any advice on ferries to Parga would be appreciated!

I would recommend Arillas or Agios Georgios(North).
Both in the North West of the island with excellent beaches & pools, also plenty of tavernas to choose from.
Below is a link to websites with information about the two places.
I am certain the Corfu experts will be able to recommend some perfect places, but if not, Paxos is almost everything you are looking for though 'hotels' and sandy beaches are limited!

Have to agree with steang. Roda sounds like the place for you. Very few nightclubs, lots of tavernas. There is a profusion of places that do the full English and sell English beers but they can be avoided. In 6 years we have. There are some nice hotels and self catering apartments. The area is flat and you can walk along the beach road easily to more tavernas in nearby Acharavi. Beach is sandy and clean, most pools are open to general public. There are good local bus links to Corfu, Sidari and Kassiopi. Hope this helps. Bev

Have to agree that the NW coast of Corfu seems to fit the bill. Bit biased as we have a house there, but there are several lovely resorts on that coast. Arillas, Agios Georgios, Agios Stephanos to name but a few. If you then want to go somewhere lively there is Sidari, but even there if you stay on the outskirts there are some really nice Greek tavernas. Do as we do, follow the locals and you are guaranteed a good meal.

Sorry to hear about your poor experiences on your first trip to Corfu! We were dubious for our first trip too and if we had been unlucky in choice of resorts no doubt we would not have gone back. Since then we have been back about 20 times.
I would have to agree that Agios Georgios north seems to fit the bill for you, as it did for us. It is a quiet resort with huge sandy beach in a lovely scenic bay. Thomsons have 2 small hotels there. If you prefer going Independent the only hotel option for June is the Belle Helene Hotel right at the beach.

Another vote for Roda. The Coral hotel is in an excellent location and can be booked independently or through a company (not sure which one). Try looking at www.rodaonline.org for more information on what the village has to offer.

Agios Georgios North would get my vote for this couple, or if they feel this is too 'touristic' then look at the small hotels round Paramona. stunning scenery, sandy beaches, and an attractive old village within walking distance (Agios Mattheos).

If you dont mind walking up and down a few hills then Paleokastritsa has a lot to offer in terms of tavernas, beaches access to town etc, however if the hill could be a problem then Arillas or St George north would be ideal for a relaxing beach holiday with decent tavernas.
