Sorry, you do not get surf in Greece. Surf is caused by waves travelling thousands of miles, not by wind. Have had several holidays near Pylos. Bay of Navarino, though beautiful is virtually enclosed from the Ionion Sea and is like a lake.

It turned out that our random choice was one of the top surf breaks on the Ionian Coast, and we were surfing with two of the leaders of Greece’s growing surf scene. The Maniadakis brothers run the surf shop at Costa Navarino.

Well Windmill it seems someone needs to tell these two Greek Brothers that they wasting their money on a Surf Shop after all they only live there - what would they know
By the way I know nothing about surfing but was trying to put a positive note on here for Greece.
Merry Christmas

They did say that the very best waves are in winter Windmill, and the writer of the article went in September, when you went I suspect it would be summer and I think you would have watched the golf course more than the waves!
There are kite surfers often at Agios Georgios (south), and I saw tremendous surf at Agios Spyridon in October.
And, yes, I do know what real surf is like as my family come from North Cornwall.

Seems to me that yet again windmill has not checked out the link before commenting. Please read everything in a post before commenting to negate arguments.

Being fair to 'windmill' (well it is Christmas!) conditions for windsurfing are very different from those needed for kite or body surfing- however many of us have seen waves suitable for surfers- not the quality of the famous places obviously but still pretty good.
Incidentally the gear for kite surfing, so my son says, can run into several thousand pounds, if there is sufficient demand for this to keep a shop going it follows that the sea must be pretty good.
Another area which I doubt anyone would associate with surfing is the French riviera- I drove through last month and counted over 50 kite surfers in one stretch- first time I had seen such numbers. I wonder if 'Windmill' would think there could be sufficient surf there either?
