To calm the missus, last night I found a way to get ITV on the telly. We have a 1.2m dish, SKY+ box and an activated card, so we get the freeview stuff, but not the SKY packages.
I've joined Expattelly for a month for 10 euros, to try it out. This then gives you acces to their VPN server which is UK based. They provide easy to follow instructions on how to get it to work.
So, first, I bring up ITV.com, select what I want to watch, which wont work as a little message comes up saying I'm not in the UK.
Then, I go to the connect/disconnect icon at the bottom of the screen, and connect to the VPN, and then close it down.
Go back to the ITV.com site and hit refresh, and Da-Ra...ITV works. X Factor on the box, and a very happy missus.
OK, I know the proper way round all this is to buy a 2.5m dish (a good one is over 1500 euros), buy a SKY package (£20 a month upwards) but I'm still trying various ways. I'm experimenting with a Dreambox, but it's driving me nuts as it's VERY complicated to set up the programing. Ah well I'll keep posting what I find.
Regards.

I have started using tvabroad.com . If you go to their site you can load the player in a couple of minutes and sign up for three days full trial. My wifi is pretty patchy (go broadband) but this site has worked great over the three days to be honest, I am impressed with it. Last night I watched the ITV programmes live, then the BBC programmes before I switched to watch some pre recorded comedy classics. I am going to pay for the year as its only 30 dollars or 4.95 a month (dollars). It has an easy to use menu as well, which makes a nice change. We have a cable to put it through the flat screen TV.

I am sorry but I posted the wrong link to the tv online, its http://www.tellyabroadcom. Just paid twenty pounds for the year and very pleased with it. We put it through the flatscreen TV from the laptop. It works great even on our Gobroadband. Enjoying the films and pre recorded comedy shows on there. As they have catch up you don't have to stay up till crazy hours to watch live programmes that are on late, you can watch them on the catch up anytime after they are show. Great stuff. I will not renew my sky equipment or box in the future.
